I agree with Mr. Mr. Cleanface on this point. I don't post much, but I do like to read on this forum. The spammers and stickies kinda pushed me away.

They really should clean it up just for the simple fact that people do visit here even if no one is posting. I mean, this thread has 1300+ views so obviously people are checking this place out.

Maybe if it was updated a bit there would be more action! I'm sure most of the old crew have run to Facebook, but I'm here!!! (even tho I haven't been for a while) And, I don't do FB. I let my SO handle that for us.

Cleanface, I share your disappointment. Sometime in 2009 this place started getting spam-bombed. The Oniracom team/handle "elephantus" was still posting official updates from G at that time and the spam seemed to get cleaned up now & then by him/her/it. Shortly thereafter, Shark & I were made mods, probably because we were continuously flagging the spam in an attempt to self-police the site.

I don't know Shark's status currently, but as far as I know we are both still Mods. However, last year (going on two years now), the spam started going way beyond our power/ability to control/mod/delete/etc.
I've spent hours cleaning up the main pages in the past, only to come back the next day and have it be buried in Spam yet again.

The phorum phreaks all went to Facebook and it was all downhill from there. Social media is the focus, but I think there is still definitely a place for a site like this, because it's a better central meeting place for the fans than Facebook.
But not like this.
They could install captchas on individual posts to help alleviate the spam, and I've emailed Philadelphonic management suggesting this, but have received no reply. I'm not sure why. Perhaps they consider this site just our playground, and therefore don't want to dedicate extra energy to it? Not sure, but it is sad.

If you want to help moderate, DM me & we'll try to see if we can join forces in an effort to clean it up, but it's going to take a lot more time than you realize. :-(

p.s. I'm now two hours into the "let's clean this place up" nitemare and it's far from done. It's pointless. Also, regarding the Stickies, it was the only way to keep actual real threads near the top and not have them buried by 11+ pages of spammy posts.

I deleted a bunch of spam, but some of these "people" have over 1000+ spammy posts. I have to ban them one-by-one, and I can only delete all posts by a spammer if they have less than 50 posts. It is a long and too-complicated process. I've long since given up. Especially cuz tomorrow I'll come back and it'll be all effed up again.

Yep, Fixin has been in my non-stop rotation since it came out. Very happy he made this album.

I like the OG version of 'Get Goin' better than this new one, but overall it's an A+ in my book.

'Pale Blue Eyes' (Velvet Underground), '50 Ways to leave Lover' (Paul Simon), Fixin, and 'You've Got To Die' (Mississippi John Hurt) are all perfect covers for G., and he definitely does them justice. Great choices. They also go well with his originals.

Just a solid album from start to finish. Glad to see you hanging around!

Stricken & I will be there with a whole crowd of other music family/friends. I saw the Avett's at the Forecastle Festy here in Louisville summer of 09. GREAT show. I've become a big fan, as is Mrs. CF, as it seems are a lot of other people these days.

hey guys, these spams are all over the world! it happened on ALO forums too, but there they were written in chinese. i still think this kinda media is great and don't think facebook can take its place. when they shut Jack Johnson forums down, i started sending messages and voi lá, 2 years later it was back! haha well, it took a long time, i know, but it's working again. it's not so fun anymore, 'cause the old and good people are all gone, but it's still good. peace guys, you take care.
