i dont wanna post a pic of it just yet cause its in the early stages, but im trying to do this art piece. i took a still from the cold beverage video of G. playing harmonica, and i sketched it in a 16in circle. the finished piece will have various patterns and textures, composed with grey coloraid paper. does anyone have any other suggestions? i mean, i kind of know how i want it to look in my head, but do you think the negative space should contain a pattern that would signify G, or will the profile of him playing be enough? if you were going to look at a piece like that, what would you want to see in it? when it starts coming together a little more, then i will post something for you all to see.

thanks!

sounds sweet! i think making the neg space dark, instead of keeping it the paper color would really pull the focus to the sketch of his profile and the details in it.. like anice heavy frame.

can't wait to see it!

thanks very much. i was thinking on black neg space at first so i think i will go ahead and stick with that. ive got the base sketch done, and i was thinking of posting that on here, but im concerned that it doesnt do enough justice and such.. i always stress over art pieces like this. thanks again!

no prob! =) i know what you mean about stressin on important pics.. sometimes you gotta take a step back for a couple days to let your head clear a bit.. sometimes i'd try to push thru a piece while the mood was in me and i ended up doing a shotty job just to finish it and get it over with.. and by then i was too pissed to try and redo it lol

LipstickVogue

yeah, now that ive got most of the base sketch down i think im gonna leave it alone for a bit. i might start working with the coloraid next week straight from the sketch i have already. its not that bad i suppose. plus with the media i am using its not going to look true to life or anything like that anyway. i think it rawks that you are also into photography as that is my major.

thats okay, i still appreciate your words. in the photo that i drew it from he is not wearing a backwards cap, but it seems that would really signify G. do you guys think i should leave it alone, and keep the pompador-like hair, or should instead add a backwards cap?

sauce.baby
11-21-2004, 07:21 PM
tough call! it is weird that he's notwearing his hat in the pic.. it's kind of his signature lol

LipstickVogue
11-21-2004, 07:33 PM
yeah, the pic is acctually a still from the cold beverage vid, and while he looks great in it, there is no hat. and i kinda want to make the final art piece really signify G, he looks great already in the image that im drawing it from. hmmm... i guess i will give it a little more thought.

Hey Lipstick, I was wondering if you saw Costello on Ausitn City Limits saturday night? Every saturday night on the "PBS" type station, well at least here, they show an episode of ACL at like 11pm I think. Anyway it was costello, rocking of course and I was curious if you got to check it out.

ragmop
11-22-2004, 03:16 PM
Yeah, it was on here (Chi-Town) last night at 11. He definitely rocked. Thought it was cool of him to invite audience up on stage at end.

It was very cool of him. I just love him. What a great musician, a living rock legend.

I liked the interview with him as well. He saidhe only had goals (musically) for about the first 2 years of his career--and they were very empty goals. Since then he has simply followed his curiousity wherever it took him. Awesome. A true artist.

I agree he is truely an artist with a genuine love for what he does.

sadly, i did not get to see that EC performance. i love that man though... one of the best concerts i have ever seen in my life. my user name is one of my fave costello songs, acctually. the man is just incredible. i agree with you guys that he is a true artist. i love how he got kicked off SNL for playing what he thought he should be playing instead of what they told him to play. and later the re-creation moment with the beastie boys was pretty cool too. the man is versatile.

to bad girl, it was awsome. you should check your local station for ACL, they have alot of great performances every week. One Love.

LipstickVogue

you guys rawketh. i never know how other people are going to react to my obsession with EC. not that i care how they react, but most people just dont seem to get it. or should i say most people in my age bracket. hehe.

oh yeah, i finished cutting the coloraid for G's hair in the art project as well as the mic. im pretty pleased so far. all thats left to do is to make some descisions on what shades of gray the other shapes should be, and what song lyrics i want for the patterned background. im thinking of using "gimme some lovin".

ramble on rose
11-25-2004, 12:13 AM
that sounds like it is turnning out great. cant wait to see it. I know what you mean about people your age digging the vibes of the good sounds, that is what the influence of mtv and crap will do to the youth.

LipstickVogue
11-25-2004, 12:19 AM
im past the stress point on it now and im to the stage where im really excited about seeing it come together.

and yeah, mtv... i remember when they used to play videos. hell they used to play some good videos. troubled youth with their soul-less music crap...

ragmop
11-25-2004, 12:20 AM
i don't think it's an age thing--people in my age bracket don't get it either. and that's just fine by me. so long as hismusic speaks to you is all that matters.

I say go with your choice of lyrics!in one of the recently posted interviews (Surf magazine maybe?), garrettsaid he thought that might be one of the best songs that he's ever written.

LipstickVogue
11-25-2004, 12:24 AM
thanks, i think i will go with those. now to see if i can clean up my horrible penmanship enough. hehe.

and yeah, i know most of the time it isnt an age thing. when i was into =w= in like 95, no one really got it. now the teens love the weez(or did a couple of years ago anyway). but at the time, people used to make fun of me for it. it seems now that i love EC so much people tend to respect it a little more than they did =w=, even if they dont know much about him.

ragmop

forget the good penmanship!"writelyrics so sloppy it's like a dif'rent language"

fair enough. you make a compelling argument, ragmop.

lsv, you are way too kind. smileys/smiley1.gif but listen, i hope you know i'm not tryin to convince one way or the other. i'm jest givin my support and adding my 2 cents. it is your creation (and btw it sounds awesome!).totallygo with what youfeel, andmake it you.

and please, somehow post it for all of us to see when it's complete!

peace

hey, i just appreciate the suggestions. i might as well go with that song since it was my first inclination to do so. and i will either post it here or post a link to it when its done so that everyone can see it. i just have lots o' cuttin' and gluin' to do. damn rubber cement. that stuff stinks.

i know what you mean lsv, i can remember when korns first album came out, it was like my 10th grade year of highschool, 94 or 95. Everyone thought my firends and i were such freaks for digging it, then a few years later mtv said they were cool so everyone else felt the same. And ragmop is right it isnt an age thing it is just a people thing. We are all just different, but the same!?

See ragmop i am not the only one who knows how much you rock, i see you getting mad love round here, but you get what you give!

Keep us posted lsv, cannot wait to see it.

okay guys, her is a link to a progression of the art piece. first, the still that i drew it from, next, the rough sketch, then my current progress. the assignment was to express movement in a 16in circle. keep in mind two things. 1, its not finished completely yet so please bear with me. 2, i dont have a scanner at home that is large enough for a 16in piece, so i used a digital camera to take a pic of it, so its at a bit of an angle. also, i know his hair looks sorta like elvis, but in my defense, he was wearing a pompador do in the cold bev video. im posting a link cause i dont want to post a large pic on here. that tend to annoy people.

oh yeah, i forgot to say that the lyrics to gimmie some lovin will be white on a black background in the negative space. i havent decided on a grey tone for the skin yet. Edited by: LipstickVogue

that freakin rocks lsv!!! i love how it's kind of a characature of him. i def love the hair on him instead of his signature hat.. i think 'gimme some lovin' will look great, and i agree, if it's sloppy it'll totally add that much more character to it!

i can't wait to see it finished now!smileys/smiley4.gif
