Alright, once again drinkin' and arguin' music on a Sat. night. These are the bands we all pretty much agreed on so what do y'all think. Basically just wondering who you guys think has been the best/most influential/most original band of the past 20-25 years, basically since 1980. If other, please reply and state your case!!!

Me - RHCP hands down!

I would maybe have to say Bob Dylan.....his lyrics.... blow meaway. his guitar style..... incredible. and not just guitar, he is multi-talented at many instruments. This question/poll is way tooooo hard for me to narrow it down to one band.

I was almost going to vote for phish b/c if you've everSAW them live, then you know what im saying.

Then i was almost going to vote for the beastie boys b/c they paved the way for white boys to get down and funky.... hehe

and of course I would say GlASs.... b/c they are my FAVORITE

AHH too hard of a questionEdited by: greengirlie

Oh man! Great question, way too hard for me though! All the bands are really inovative and one of a kind for the era. Yikes, I just can't do it!

Greenie - yo, I am talking about bands that were formed, and started playing from 1980 on. Dylan is the greatest songwriter ever IMO, but he doesn't fit into this. Cool?

for me its a toss up between Elvis Costello and G. Love & Special sauce. both very original and distinctive, E.C. has been around a bit longer, so probably more influential, but G.L.A.S.S. is probably a wee bit more of an original sound for his time...

U2 and GLaSS-that's my vote.

wow, that is a really good question.....if I had to pick from your list I would have to say the beastie boys. They came with there sounds in the early days of the rap hip hop evolution and are still going strong!! They have done and continue to do what they feel and love and just don't give a f@#* what anyone thinks, they reinvent themselves all the time yet stay relatively the same crazy dudes they have always been."brass monkey that funky monkey" I also have to add Sublime, they may not have been around for a long time, but they had a way with all types of sound you couldn't label them, they were punk, ska, reggae, rock, and anything else. When Brad sang you felt his pain, or whatever vibe he was trying to give off. Most of the bands on this list are great choices though.

btw-hell yeah Bob Dylan is the greatest EVER!!!!Edited by: ramble on rose

Me personally, I think it is too tough to even make a decision, never the less feel some great bands would have to be added to a poll like this: Radiohead, The Smashing Pumpkins, DMB,Metallica..you could go on for a while, and every band up on the poll is great, and deserve to be there, but a lot of arguments can be built for a lot of great bands.

its just personal preference in the end, It is good to get an idea of what one would choose, but I am sure we can all make very good arguments for OUR favorite musicians and bands. smileys/smiley1.gif

Don't think I agree with Phish. While I am a huge Dead fan Phish never did it for me, and they are not as influential as other bands mentioned. As for U2, the early stuff was great, but I just think after rattle and hum, they just got too weird. But the beauty of music is there is so much of it out there for us to discover what moves us and speaks to us. One love!

Ok, how could we not say 311 yet?? Are we a bunch of burnouts, or is it just me?Edited by: ramble on rose

Phish not influential, now now, If you follow the jamband scene closely, Obviously the Dead are the creators, but a Long list of bands today in that genre of music are heavily influenced by Phish.examples: Umphrey's Mcgee-Great Band, SCI- great band, and many more. You just mentioned 311, but you would disagree with Phish? See this is why I feel a thread should be made called: YOUR favorite and Your most influential bands of all time. It just makes sense to do so, cause its all personal preference. Case in point, I wouldnt even consider 311 in the top100 bands of the last 20 years, and I like them.Personal preference...

I totally agree with you. It is all about personal preference. What moves you may not move me, as we have proved. I mean I can totally see your point about 311. I love them, but they really have not influenced to many others bands that I can think of. Which shows that they are more of my preference then any thing else, however I stand by mythoughts on Phish. I am not saying they suck or they aren't good musicians, they just aren't on my list. No worries! I do have to say whether we agree or not I do immensely enjoy discussing music with all of you. one love.

I did want to add B-Love that I totally agree with Metallica, I was going to mention it myself, but I went into a ramble about The Beastie Boys in my first response I forgot. But, man talk about influential. I don't like alot of the stuff after the black album, but Ride the lightening is one of my favorite albums ever.Edited by: ramble on rose

Excellent Louweezles; I agree 100%. Along with the Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction was the most influencial band on me in my younger years. Love em.' "Ritual de lo Habitual" changed my life.

Not the most impressive list, but still . . . Of that list, U2 has most range and depth.O'Jays were fun with their music but short-lived. (Whether they influenced other artists? Dunno about that.) I'm very happy for Percy Sledge, and I was surprised he wasn't in already. He deserves it. C'mon, how many of ushaven't danced to that song? Killer song. Pretenders probably deserve it as well . . . Hell, they all deserve it! I say let'em all in. (Man, I'm easy . . .)
