Nope I will be going to the liquor store as soon as I get off work! It has been a bad week here too. Monica (since you work with kids too) and everyone else.. I was wondering what you thought about the kindergartener getting handcuffed in FL? Did you hear about it? It is so sad that these little kids are that crazy, but I think that is what it has to come to sometimes. I mean getting punched in the face for saying hello. Some of these kids are so screwed up!

Yeah, I heard about that little girl. No opinion on right vs. wrong. I justthink the situation is a sad one on so many levels. I feel for the little girl. What is her home life like? Whatanger she must harbor within at such a young age?How low her own self-esteem and self-worth must be to treat others around her like that? What impact this event (and of course the media fecking swarm) will have on her. How horrible the adults must feel for having felt that they had no choice but to resort to that extreme.

No winners, and just so sad and depressing. Pray that your child never feels like this little girl must feel. Damn.

Here is a link about what happened.

ragmop... I agree with you about her home life. But I guess we really don't know what it is like. I mean I obviously deal with kids every day who are abused and neglected by their parents, and of course they are troubled. But then there are the kids who have a perfectly good/normal life. I was a nanny last summer (parents were together, involved and normal... thekidstwo girls 13and 11 and a boy 7). The little boy was an absolute terror! Here are a few of my favorite quotes "I am going to kill you with a knive." (a week later he took a knive from the drawer and chased us around the kitchen) "I am going to kick you in the face and knock your teeth out." "You are only crabby because your cousin killed herself." He also kicked me in the crotch and karate choped me. oh he also called me a bitch...Mind you this is a 7 year old. The wierd thing is the girls were totally well behaved. eedless to say I am not going to nanny this year. Edited by: ben04

wow....

I have to agree about the little girl's home life after reading that article. The mother of that little girl actually ordered the school's staff not to touch her daughter, no wonder they had to call the Police. It's scary to think that kids can so easily turn on you, like your 7 yr old ben04 what r u supposed to do when a kid comes at you with a knife?

There always seems to be an excuse for these kids though.. ADD ADHD etc. and a drug to match the behaviour. But where does it stop? Miniture strait-jacket's? I don't know, I guess you can't really know what it's like until you have an out of control kid of your own.

Thanx for the link. How about the sick, lecherous and proprietory grab of "A Current Affair"?

If that doesn't wake you up to theratings/money paradigm, nothing ever will. Why is a media program the agent for this mother?Control acommodity in rare supply, and you control the price.

I know it's reality, but it's icky. smileys/smiley11.gif

I've been subbing for middle school band classes...today I got a call 5 min. into the hour and they informed me I was putting on a concert for part of the school in 20 minutes. Psh, as soon as the day was over all I could think of was a nice glass of something w/ alcohol. Anything!!! Needless to say, it's never to early to start drinking.

So the classroom that I work in is a different situation. Its TMH. So I take care of kids with Autism, Cereberal Palsey, Severe LD and BD (behavior disorders) and one that has split personalities. I am allowed to be some what physical with these kids. There are times EVERYDAY when these kids become a threat to themselves and to others. Most of the kids that I work one on one with are non-verbal as well. They have no way of expressing themselves, they become frustrated, and lash out on the closest person to them... ME!! We NEVER cuff them but we do have weighted vests and learn how to properly hold/restrain the kids with out hurting ourselves or the kids.

The kid that punched me in the face is profoundly autistic, 11 yrs old, non-verbal and not even potty trained. He only knows the sign language that I have taught him and no one else in the school signs with him. Needless to say, the way he treats me is better than he treats anyone else. Later in the punching day, he threw me against the wall, hits me repeatedly in the chest and kicks me over and over again in the legs so that I have to ppin him onthe ground so that the only thing left for him to do is bite me. Welcome to the world of special needs children. Its not always an easy job but someone's gotta do it.

Oh yeah, God blessed me with a lot of patience too.

OK... i'm gonna stop now. Gotta pour my drink!smileys/smiley2.gif

Monica*, God bless you for your work and your patience with those kids. You are an angel of mercy for those kids, I am sure. Enjoy the Cold Beverage . . .

(And that goes for you too, ben04 and Jaykob!)

I'm hopin' there's special little place in heave for me!

My second day subbing band...again kids are awful! I conducted a jazz concert, went off with out a hitch. Kids sounded great.

Here's the kicker...right after brining chairs, instruments, and stands back to the band room from the auditorium 2 kids get in a fight. Yea, stands go flying, chairs are knocked over. A TOTAL mess. Yea, I was pissed, the office even needed to be called. Freaking ridiculous!! Needless to say, drinks were had later that night.

http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_67.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm776YYAU)Monica , u rock! I know how hard it can be to deal with special kids. Before we moved we used to help out with swimming lesson's for the kids from our local school's special class. The kids were not as disabled as it sounds like some of your kids are, but they were still a big handleful especially in the water.

The world is definately a better place with people like you in it.

You deserve that drink!!

wow guys. thank you so much. it feels awesome to see that people understand that it can be tough sometimes to work in a setting like that. one thing that always keeps me coming back to work is that i am there with this kid while their families are taking a break. its harder for the family than anyone else. helping the family as a whole is a good feeling for me.
