Here's something for you to read today. A great song by Donna The Buffalo for a great man.
Mr.King
Lyrics by: Tara Nevins , Jeb Puryear
Music by: Tara Nevins
CHORUS
We've got your dream Mr. King
It's in our hearts
We've got your dream Mr. King
And Ms. Rosa Parks
We've got your dream
Of peace, love and harmony
It's a vision of the way things have gotta be
Everybody stand up
Stand up for what you know is right
And we're gonna never
Never give up the fight
You can see how far we have come
There's still a mighty battle to be won
We've been marching out from the past
That lovely day when we're all free at last
Give it a listen here: http://www.funkyside.com/index.cfm/detail/Music/default/118 (http://www.funkyside.com/index.cfm/detail/Music/default/118.htm). htmEdited by: brijahn

not to start a racial motivated fight- but i Just heard about this yesterday. all i could say is wow- i'm sure it's not All complete truth, but it caught me off guardnonetheless.
this was the biggest shocker----http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/hoa...uther+King+Hoax
Four things I'll bet you didn't know about Martin Luther King:
1. His name wasn't Martin Luther. It was Michael. It was decided Martin Luther had a more prominent ring to it, so he went by that. He never legally changed his name. To this day, he lived and died as Michael King.
2. While working on his dissertation for his doctoral degree at Boston University, he heavily plagiarized from another author who had done research on a subject similar to King's. An academic committee later found that over half of Kings work was plagiarized, yet would not revoke his doctorate degree. King was dead by this time, and the committee
ruled that revoking the title would serve no purpose. It was also discovered that King's famous I HAVE A DREAM speech was also not his own. He stole it from a sermon by Archibald Carey, a popular black preacher in the 1950's.
3. King was under FBI surveillance for several years (until he died)due to his ties with communist organizations throughout the country. King accepted money from the organizations to fund his movements. In return, King had to appoint communist leaders to run certain districts of his
SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), who then could project their communist ideas to larger audiences. A federal judge in the 60's ruled that the FBI files on King links to communism to remain top-secret until 2027. Senator Jesse Helms appealed to the Supreme Court in 1983 to
release the files, so the bill in the Senate to create the Martin Luther King Federal Holiday could be abolished. He was denied.
4. One of King's closest friends, Rev. Ralph Abernathy, wrote a book in 1989 in which he talked about King's obsession with white prostitutes. King would often use church donations to have drunken sex parties, where he would hire two to three white prostitutes, occasionally beating them brutally. The FBI agents who monitored King have also reported this. King was married with four children. Martin Luther King Day is a day on which this country comes to a screeching halt so we can have parades and memorials to honor this man, a man that most of the world views as a saint for his role in the civil rights movement:
No other public holiday in the United States honors a single
individual; Of all the great leaders in our Nation's history - none of them have their own holiday;
All of our great war heroes share Memorial Day;
All of our great presidents share President's Day.
Yet King-- a man who was a phony, a cheater, a traitor, and a sexual degenerate gets a day of his own.
I have a big problem with that. I'm not trying to take anything away from African Americans, but I am simply trying to point out that the vast majority of people are sorely mistaken about Michael King; and Reverse discrimination is blatantly obvious everywhere you look today.
Have you been watching the news lately? President Bush just got himself in some hot water when he spoke out against the University of Michigan for giving black applicants precedence over more qualified white applicants.
Now Jesse Jackson, the NAACP, and other black leaders are trashing him, without a doubt planning how they can use this. Think about that - Bush just made a stand for equal human rights, but lo and behold, in this case the blacks didn't want to be treated as equals.
Make up your own minds, but I feel like I belong to one of the more abused ethnic groups in this country today.
Can I do anything about it? Absolutely not. If I dare speak out I'll get labeled a racist, harassed by the media, subsequently lose my job, and never be able to show my face in public again.
But what I can do is send this e-mail to as many people I know in hopes that when you're watching the evening news on Martin Luther King Day, and you observe our politicians falling all over themselves to be filmed in a black church, you'll keep these above facts in mind.

I got this email a long time ago, for the most part it is false, but there is some hint of truth. Check out snopes for the scoopes. http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/mlking.asp
I think this says it best, copied from http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/hoaxes/hoax5.asp?HName=Marti (http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/hoaxes/hoax5.asp?HName=Martin+Luther+King+Hoax) n+Luther+King+Hoax
"this email hoax is written in the same tone found on hate-driven Web sites. It resorts to name-calling, labeling King as a “phony, a cheater, a traitor, and a sexual degenerate. It mutters in protest that the King holiday is the only US public holiday that celebrates a single individual, although federal law enforces both Washington’s Birthday and Columbus Day. It is an argument that is breaking at the seams and should simply be deleted upon receipt."

i can see where both of you are coming from...there are a lot of race relations problems. Psilo-cowboy has a great point about reverse racism...IT HAPPENS, i don't care if that make me a racist in someones eyes (it shouldn't).Once again i implore of people to read up on the facts...there's racism on both sides of the road, and both kindssuck. How is it right to give people an advantage simply because of the color of their skin? it has never been right and never will be right. whether it's affirmative action or segregation (i'm not justtalking black and white) it needs to stop. Don't get on Psilo-cowboy, this is a forum, and this is the general discussion area....anything is fair game. He was obviously stunned by what he read and wanted to get other peoples reactions...that's all I think it is...i've never read anything from him that would lead me to believe he's a bad guy...race is stupid, it's all a matter of melanin counts, who cares? we all come from the same place an all go to the same place

let me say it clearly, i Personally think MLK did Far more good for
society- than bad. i'm not "focused" on bad things he
did. those were Just all things i'd never heard
before, & thought it interesting enough to post on a MLK
thread. didn't realize i needed a disclaimer to
follow the text i cut & pasted.

None of what psilo-Cowboy said should come as a surprise. Just look at MLK's right hand man- "Rev" Jessie Jackson.
He's being playing the race card forever. Shakingdown companies (blackmailing), and tax evasion. The rainbow push coalition is just a front for Jackson and his cohorts to exthort money from private citizens and companies.
FYI- After threating Bush Beer with a boycott, Jackson told them the only way to avoid it would be to give a one of theirs factories to Jackons brother (who is not a master brewer and had no experience at all in that line of work). Sorry to say they gave in.http://philadelphonic.com/forum/smileys/smiley7.gif things like this happen more often then not.
Now, no one says MLK must be perfect, he did do a lot of good (huge amounts). and thats why we celebrate his life.

DAMN, DAMN, DAMN!!! I missed out on a good one! Just to put my 2 cents in... and you know I will.
Understanding that everything is settled in the "convo" I think the background that cowboy posted was very interesting. (by the way hi) Everyone has a few skeletons in their closet. When I first read that a few days ago, I knew it would hit a nerve with someone here, so I waited to see how it would pan out. But, you can't blame King, really, his whole life consisted ofhuge dedication to changing a horrible conflict... you have to have some "crutches" to get your self through conflicts. (Cowboy will argue me about crutches 'cause he doesn't have any!!!)I also agree with looking at the positive aspect of MLK life, which I think the majorityof society does, but it is interesting to hear the dark side of a driven leader. The forgery, shocks memore that the prostitutes. Considering the"IHad ADream" speech was supposedly a speech he had in fact 'dreamed'.
It's amazing how muchmore you learn whenout open your eyes... They never taught that in school!
psilo-cowboy
01-23-2004, 10:42 PM
i got crutches.. just NOT cheatin on my gal, things detrimental to my
family, & so on. but OH, i got some crutches.
catch 22 i guess....everyone that criticizes someone else for whatever,
is gonna be criticized two fold by somebody else. what's the

smileys/smiley6.gifDamn! I'm blown away with all the differences of opinions regarding MLK... Everone has his/her own opinion about MLK. After all, this is America - land of the free&thebrave. Freedomof speechcan sometimesoffend others and it can sometimes makeothers proud - luck of the draw. I'm not a racist, I try to get along with everyone. Hell, I don't evenknow what I am - I'm mixed with black, white, irish and Indian - go figure. But I try not to look at myself as a black, white, irish or indian woman, I try tolook atmyself as I'm every woman, living inthe greatest nation in the world. However, society doesn't let me liveas every woman becauseit labels meas being black, same as Martin Luther King whom I think was a great man with skeletons definitely in his closet - no one is perfect. It all boils down tothis people- we are all human beings& although we come in difference shapes, sizes and colors, we all come from the same - awomb, entering into this world with a slap on the ass, ouch! When we all leave this world, we all take the samelast breath! Whenwe take a sh*t, it "all" stinkssmileys/smiley6.gif the same (maybe some a little stronger than others)still, its all stinky sh*tand until someone specialcan sh*t perfume, hell we're all the same people whoshould quite franklybe filled with peace &love for one another and not so much hate. Sadly, that's not the case in America orany part of this world. It would really be nice ifwe could all agree to disagree or disagree to agree - that's what makes the world go round. We all have skeletons in our closets, Lord knows I show do, smileys/smiley2.gifhehehee,no one is perfect in this mean old world solets just drown ourselves in the good vibes of great musicians like G-Love & the SSS(Specially Special Sauce) 'cause music is good for the soul, helps you cope withthe problems of the world... if not but fora set or two of vibin' & survivin' with G and his crew. Don't forget - that you, me, and every other white person in this country have at least a 500 yearhead start on freedom as oposed to African Americans. It wasn't even until the year 2000 that one could legally interacially marry in some states. What is all boils down to is that we are all Americans and in these times color should have no bearing. Many blacks died for our country and were never, or will never be recognized for it. Whatever MLK did, or didn't do, he was the face of civil rights and started a positive movement which ignited others to join. We should all be happy we don't live somewhere where you can get decapitated for your beliefs.
Valorie
06-22-2004, 09:39 PM
Oh I hear ya Vanessa and I won't ever forget. Although color should have no bearing, it does have bearing. Don't forget, just like many blacks died forthis country, so did many whites, Indians, Mexicans, Italians - allraces havedied for this country and will never be recognized either - tit for tat. Yeah yeahwhites have a 500 year head start - luck of the draw, who knows??? MLK's movement set off a tremendousignition tohopefully one daycatchup to the starting line if you get my meaning. In the meantime, we've come a mightylong way -thanks to MLK &a lot of other people of color andguess what, white people included.Had it not been for some white people, it is my firm belief that we as African Americanssurely wouldn't be where we are today - drinkingfrom unlabeled water fountains, using unlabeled bathrooms, eating in public restuarants, obtaining blue & white collarpositions, dominating the sports world of football, baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, and as Chris Rock says, when white folks put some heat inice hockey rinks, we's gonna dominate that too, heheheee. So, for what it's worth, one day we'll get there -we might not get there together but we'll get to the mountain top and when we do, guess what?We shouldseeMartain Luther King, Jr. Now if you don't make it then that's on you 'cause I's plan to get there honey chile'. I speak like this because I know where I've been& whereI come from& I'm not a shame of my heritage& to hopefullyget a laugh out of you or put a smile on your face& anybody else reading this post. So loosen up and don't take this race thing to heart - weas Americanshave a lot more serious problems to think &worry about these days- people who are trying to kill all of us Americans and color don't matter to them- the Al caida Terrorist (Ithink I missspelled that word). On that note, I'm outa here. Peace be with you.

I agree Val. You're a smart cookie. I also agree that white people definitely palyed a significant part in gaining rights for African Americans, especially woman-because they were just as discriminated against. (Look up Viola Liuzzo.) Race is such a touchy subject because all people have had their own personal experiences which helped them in forming their opinions. I guess the best thing for all is toremember to knowyour history - and then you'll know where you're coming from! I think ifwe all (blacks and whites)learned African American history it would giveus a different perspective on how our country treated blacks throughout history. This is the time for all Americans to unite and show these terrorists that we are a powerful force to be reckoned with. What does it proove if we can't even get along amongst ourselves?! Listen to Garrett. Not a racist bone in his body. Free at Last.

I posted a response to Abilities earlier and for some reason it didn't post. I'm glad it didn't postbecause I misunderstood where Abilities was coming from at first. I overlookedthe quotation marks inAbilities sentence quotingcowboy'sstatement about bating black bastards. Cowboy, it appears you have a lot of hatred& anger forAfrican Americans. What a shame.People with your kind of attitude toward African Americansare the reason racism will always exist in America! You offend us by making such racial statements but yet it's okay for African Americans to protect your freedom of speech & your safety in this country by puttingtheir liveson the lineto die for you, your family, this country - right!African Americans have invented a lot ofthings in this country that you, your family -America, enjoys. I bet you're not even educated enough to know aboutall the things African Americans have contributed to this great country! I alsoknow it wouldn't matter one way or the other to youbecause your ignorance doesn't allow you to know or evencare - only to offend. Since you're so set on dragging a great man like MLK down& people of color, why don't you do something positive like join a branch of service& put your life on the line& risk dying for this country like African Americans have done instead of talking a lot of sh*t offending us. Why don't you go f**k up a terrorist and dragas manyof them down as you cancowboy because that's who you need to be offendingnot African Americans!African Americans make contributions to this country - not destruction. But it is difficult being black and/or half black in America Abilities, we just have to learn to cope with it. Sometimes I can cope and sometimes I can't but I try not to let it get me down. I'm disturbed that cowboy has so much anger and hate for black people so I'd like to make a suggestion to cowboy. I'd like to invite you to surf over to my son's website www.ventanamusic.com (http://www.ventanamusic.com) click on the Listen to Music section and then click on the song titled "Lost in your Eyes" and listen to the words of that song - I'm serious man because it sounds like you need to get layed with a beautiful woman with a beautiful song playing in the background to hopefully take away some of that hate & anger you have for us. Then I want you to listen to the other song "Day by Day" and listen real close to the words - that's how most white people - not all white people, makeAfrican Americansfeel - you want us to fail in life but we take it day by day and go on with our lives. If that doesn't help your attitude, then I suggest you listen to Ben Harper some more and G-Love too because they sing about the injustices we suffer too, especially G. Why don't you listen to "200 Years" by G-Love, that song sums it up in a nutshell. If you don't have a copy of "200 Years" - it's on G's "Yeah, it's That easy" CD, I'll send you a copy of the song or the whole CD if you wish. I really hate to see such anger and hatred because it makes me act unlady like when I'm provoked by offensive, racist language. Peace out.

Oh my, no responses from anyone... This is a very touchy subject& I personally didn't mean to make anyone uncomfortable by not responding, if I did, I apologize - that goes for you too cowboy. The only reason I asked you to check my son's website out& listen to those songs I suggestedis because music reallyis good forthe soul& I thought hearing a song or two by an "X G-Love" member would soften your heart some. Yeah, my son Chadused to be a part of G-Love's band. He toured the east& west coast with them back in the day& he's one of the lead vocals ona couple of G-Love's CD releases, "Philadelphonic" and "Oh Yeah It's That Easy". My son is alsoone of the lead vocals on thepopular "Milk & Cereal" song - they made the song up one morning - acting a fool and cuttin' upon the G-Love bus, hehee. My son&his best friend Earl were known as Brodeeva & they were very close to G, Houseman & Jimmy Jazz. That's why I use the name "Brodeeva's Mom"& a lot of people know me from the Old G-Love message board. Man, I made so many friends, I couldn't keep up with all of themcowboy - Ieven see a few fans from the old message board on this board - the new & improved &sometimes confusing board, hahahaa, but I'm getting used to it. So now that the cat is out of the bag - with that info exposed, I wouldhope you go ahead & check out my son Chad'swebsite www.ventanamusic.com (http://www.ventanamusic.com)and listen to some one who used to sing with G-Love & Special Sauce - music of an African American who learned a helluva lot from GLASS. Iwas hoping his music wouldput a smile on your face& get rid of some of thathostility youpossess against black people - MLK in particular. Hey, we're all in it together so we may as well try to get along - so can we? I'm willing to forgive& forget& move forward - how bout you, Abilities &Perry.Peace???? Please???

The beef has been squashed. This was a very touchy topic on the board when it started back in like feb. I think. Everybody and I mean everybody has difff. beliefs on this topic especially when it comes to racial issues. That is what makes us all different and that is what makes the earth rotate. Lets just try and end this one on a positive vibe. I know I will for sure. Peace to all and I mean all. PERRY.

Come on y'all just beating a dead horse at this point...we all have different beliefs, obviously if u read all the posts on this thread u would see that I was one of the original people to get offended by the comments, just because talk like this only causes drama and beef, I try to keep politics and racial issues to a minimal on a music board...its good to talk about these kinds of things but sometimes can lead to tension...love urself, love ur neighbor man...and like my best man at my wedding says...Peace to all, and I mean all!

smileys/smiley6.gifDamn B-Love! Just when I was about to say one down and two to go - Cowboy - Abilities,Peace??? Please??? Well all I can say at this point is this. All this tension amongstour races always comes to a squash when tragedy hits home in Americabecause there is no question in my mindwhen push come to shove we always come together as Americans -one race ofpeoplewhen tragedy hits home - we see no color, if not but for a minute, a day, a week or a monthin times of crisis - tornados, floods, earthquakes, bombings and war.Well, maybe I'm pushing the time frame a littlesmileys/smiley6.gifbut you know what, I don't know about you but I'll take that momentanytime becauseit means for a moment, no oneis judginganyone becauseit doesn't matter. Soweneed to keepbeating that "dead horse" until it wakes up. I know, I knowit's not possible but it sure didn't hurt to wish it were possible, hell I'd be the first one in lineto beat some life back into it. And the verdict of this sensitive topic is we disagree to disagree.Guess I'll godrown my failed attempts to make peace in some good ole music -G-Love & Special Sauce sounds real good right about now to cheer up my spirits. Can't wait for his new release coming out on August 24th, so don't ya'll forget to go out and buy it, I've already got my money set aside, hehehe. Nothin' but luv for ya Abilities, B-Love &Cowboy. Perry, you are alright in my books pal. Thanks for the squash, it'sreally needed here. Moving on.........

I'm sorry B-Love, didn't mean to get the wrong impression of you. You are alright in my books too - just like Perry, hahahaa. I think Abilities' strategy is to rattle the cage on this boardto keep the conversations "heated & very interesting" and I think he does it all in good fun. He's doing a good job of making the fans excitedbecause we can't wait tolog on and see whats being said next - especially by him, you, Perry and we haven't heard much fromcowboy. Anyways,Abilities' strategy is working....he's got my attention, heheheeand it's all in good fun. If I'm wrong, I stand corrected. Much luv for every one. Take care B-Love & you guys try to stay outa trouble okay - especially you Abilities, ya feel me pal smileys/smiley3.gif

Well thanks Kara, that was nice of you to do. I'll pass the word on to Ventana that you like their music -unless you left a message on their message board that you're diggin' their vibes too, hahahaa. I know G-Love& Special Sauce isgoing to be inCalifornia in August, I think the 24th, so I hope G gives my son & Earla call sincetheyuse to perform with them back in the day. I'm sure Chad & Earl would love to hear fromGLASS when they hit California. They can still be reached through theirformer manager Mr. Bryant, who by the way is the manager for Smokey Robinson. The number is still the same G so if you see this post, give the boys a call - they'd love it. Again, thanks Kara for checking out their website. I like their music too 'cause I'm their #1 Fan, hehehee. Hey, have a safe Fourth of July Kara - & everyone else too.

What are races? Trying to get somewhere first?
Is black a colour? No. Then why are some groups called coloured?
Ignorance or dissapointement are the two biggest causes for hatred... Those who are ignorant could be educated, but those who are dissapointed are the tough cookies..
I myself usually don't see differences between people, except the individual differences..
Also:
Discussions regarding heated/touchy subjects on a message board NEVER turn out right.. You don't know who you are talking to... I have to say this went fairly peaceful if you compare it to other boards I visit...
Cheers all,
-DanToo Dee!

Dan Too, I couldn't agree with you more. This topic went fairly well and ended in disagreement - oh well, it was to be expected. Discussions on touchy topics never goes well, especially when you don't know the person whom you are communicating with. But that'sthe chance youtake when you jump in and get your feet wet. Sometimes you make friends and sometimes you don't. I made a lot of friends on the old message board and I made some enemies too.I try not to think about them but they all know who they are and what they said and did to me back in the day. I'm a big girl and I can take constructive criticism and I know how to lick my wounds and go on. So I jump on the new board and already I've met much controversy and I was only trying to make new friends. I think I'm going to take my old G-Lovefriend's advice and keep silent like he doeswhen it comes to "touchy topics" on this board because you really don't know who you're dealing with and their words can cut deep - but so can mine. I don't like getting in to it with people, but when provoked, I will. Here lately, I find myself getting in to itwith people - depending on whether I'm having a bad day, a senior moment or something is bothering me - and that's not good. Much luv for everyone anyways. So, on that note, I'm signing off.............
