View Full Version : George Carlin on New Orleans...
Mr. Cleanface

The staunch advocate of the 1st Amendment, see "Seven Words you can Never Say on TV," has spoken out on the situation in NOLA.
Sounds good to me...
Been sitting here with my ass in a wad, wanting to speak out about the bullshit going on in New Orleans. For the people of New Orleans...
First we would like to say, Sorry for your loss. With that said, Lets go
through a few hurricane rules: (Unlike an earthquake, we know it's coming)
#1. A mandatory evacuation means just that..Get the hell out.
Don't blame the Government after they tell you to go. If they hadn't
said anything, I can see the argument. They said get out... if you didn't, it's your fault, not theirs. (We don't want to hear it, even if you don't have a car, you can get out.)
#2. If there is an emergency, stock up on water and non-perishables. If you didn't do this, it's not the Government's fault you're starving.
#2a. If you run out of food and water, find a store that has some.
(Remember, shoes, TV's, DVD's and CD's are not edible. Leave them alone.)
#2b. If the local store has been looted of food or water, leave your
neighbor's TV and stereo alone. (See # 2a) They worked hard to get their stuff. Just because they were smart enough to leave during a mandatory evacuation, doesn't give you the right to take their stuff...it's theirs, not yours.
#3. If someone comes in to help you, don't shoot at them and then complain no one is helping you. I'm not getting shot to help save some dumbass who didn't leave when told to do so.
#4. If you are in your house that is completely under water, your
belongings are probably too far gone for anyone to want them. If someone does want them, let them have them and hopefully they'll die in the filth. Just leave! (It's New Orleans, find a voodoo warrior and put a curse on them)
#5. My tax money should not pay to rebuild a 2 million dollar house, a
sports stadium or a floating casino. Also, my tax money shouldn't go to rebuild a city that is under sea level. You wouldn't build your house on quicksand would you? You want to live below sea-level, do your country some good and join the Navy.
#6. Regardless of what the Poverty Pimps Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton want you to believe, The US Government didn't create the Hurricane as a way to eradicate the black people of New Orleans; The US Government didn't cause global warming that caused the hurricane (We've been coming out of an ice age for over a million years).
#7. The government isn't responsible for giving you anything. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave, but you gotta work for what you want. McDonalds and Wal-Mart are always hiring, get a damn job and stop spooning off the people who are actually working for a living.
President Kennedy said it best..."Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
Thank you for allowing me to rant.

This doesn't sound like George Carlin to me. It reminds me of a similar one (http://tig.mu.nu/archives/016195.php) where Robin Williams' name were used some time ago. Other than that I'll only agree on #3.
Please check out this one (http://urbanlegends.about.com/b/a/208683.htm) too, which I found after a quick google search.

Oh well, I still agree with whomever posted it.

</t></table>
That's pretty ignorant. I guess if someone told you to leave your
house because a disaster was coming, and you didn't, you'd blame it on
them, right? And, I am asssuming from your post, that you think
looting TV's, shoe, Stereos, beeretc...is acceptable, and robbing your
neighbors is OK too.
I guess your signature line is just some bullshit you don't truly
believe in, right? Maybe you should change it, you belong with the
Unicorn and Rainbow crowd.
Thanks for being my internet shadow though, I appreciate it.
That's pretty ignorant? Well, that's
your opinion. I don't live in the US so I don't know how the media
reported the catastropy (except FOX), but here's the impression I got
from my news sources:</span>
#1. A mandatory evacuation means just that..Get the hell out.</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
Don't blame the Government after they tell you to go. If they hadn't</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
said
anything, I can see the argument. They said get out... if you didn't,
it's your fault, not theirs. (We don't want to hear it, even if you
don't have a car, you can get out.)
</span>-First of all the poor people
who could not afford to leave: If you do not have the money you can not
leave. If you maybe do, where are you going to go? I know there was
some kind of bus arrangement but the amount of buses did not add up to
the amount of people. Too many people, not enough buses. In short: The
poor were left behind.
-Second, if people want to stay it's their right to do so. Of course
they have to take full responsibility and as far as I can see they did.
-Third, believe it or not but some people are not physically able to evacuate due to illness, handicaps etc.
-There was a shortage on gasolin at the moment which came as a surprise on your authorities.
</span></span>
#2. If there is an
emergency, stock up on water and non-perishables. If you didn't do
this, it's not the Government's fault you're starving.
</span>-See answer to #1.</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
#2a. If you run out of food and water, find a store that has some.</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
(Remember, shoes, TV's, DVD's and CD's are not edible. Leave them alone.)
</span>-As far as I can tell almost
all the stores were closed. Electrical goods are not edible, but a pair
of shoes might come in handy. Besides, just because there was looting
going on this doesn't mean that everybody was looting! From my point of
view the looting may be explained by the fact that this was many
peoples chance to "get back at the Man". If you never had anything it's
pretty easy to become an opportunist.</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
#2b. If the local store has been looted of food or water, leave your</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
neighbor's
TV and stereo alone. (See # 2a) They worked hard to get their stuff.
Just because they were smart enough to leave during a mandatory
evacuation, doesn't give you the right to take their stuff...it's
theirs, not yours.
</span>-See answer to #2a.</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
#3. If someone comes in to help you, don't
shoot at them and then complain no one is helping you. I'm not getting
shot to help save some dumbass who didn't leave when told to do so.
</span>-As I've said, I agree, all
though I remember reading something about they were not sure if it was
gunfire but explosions from the fires.</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
#4. If you are in your house that is completely under water, your</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
belongings
are probably too far gone for anyone to want them. If someone does want
them, let them have them and hopefully they'll die in the filth. Just
leave! (It's New Orleans, find a voodoo warrior and put a curse on them)
</span>-And? People do not stay on the
top of their houses just for fun. They were waiting to be rescued! If
people are eager to get back to their homes I don't blame them.
Wouldn't you be curious and anxious to get back to your home after such
a disaster to see what's left?</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
#5. My tax money should not pay to rebuild a 2 million dollar house, a</span><br style="font-style: italic;">
sports
stadium or a floating casino. Also, my tax money shouldn't go to
rebuild a city that is under sea level. You wouldn't build your house
on quicksand would you? You want to live below sea-level, do your
country some good and join the Navy.
</span>-If tax money only went to pay for stuff the taxpayer approved the world would be a bureaucratic place indeed!
-Call me crazy but I'm pretty sure that the 2M$ houses, stadiums and
casinos are insured, which means the insurance company get stuck with
the bills.
-If a small portion of your tax dollars had went to pay for fixing the
levees in advance this might not have happened, but the Bush
administration said no (And I'm NOT turning this into a Bush bashing
thread!).<br style="font-style: italic;">
</span></span><br style="font-style: italic;">
#6. Regardless of what the
Poverty Pimps Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton want you to believe, The
US Government didn't create the Hurricane as a way to eradicate the
black people of New Orleans; The US Government didn't cause global
warming that caused the hurricane (We've been coming out of an ice age
for over a million years).
</span>-Well, since the US have been
stalling the KYOTO protocol for some years now that's a tricky one
considering that the US (+ Canada) tops the CO2 emission scale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Carbon_Emission_by_Region.png).
-I am perfectly aware of the fact that the hurricane seasons are not
created by people. However, some scientist point out that global
warming (caused by CO2 emissions) might have been increasing the power
of the hurricanes.<br style="font-style: italic;">
</span></span><br style="font-style: italic;">
#7. The government isn't responsible
for giving you anything. This is the land of the free and the home of
the brave, but you gotta work for what you want. McDonalds and Wal-Mart
are always hiring, get a damn job and stop spooning off the people who
are actually working for a living.
-</span>Where to begin... First off,
this is why you pay taxes! The government is not Us and Them! It's you
and me. The reason you pay taxes is to contribute to society and at the
same time get access to public goods (roads, school etc.) payed for by
the tax. Second, you also pay taxes to take care of the less fortunate.
This time it's not you but some day it might be. I'm well aware that
your welfare system is a bit different from ours, but the basic meaning
is the same: To help those who need it! At the same time not all places
are hiring. People are getting laid off almost all around the globe
every day.</span>
<br style="font-style: italic;">
President Kennedy said it best..."Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
</span>-Wise words! Maybe he meant contributing by, lets say, paying taxes?
To answer your questions: If someone told me to evacuate my house I
would IF I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO! Usually I don't go round
blaming people for my own actions. I don't think looting is acceptable
but I'm guessing they didn't do it for the fun of it. Most of them
anyway.
My signature is not some bullshit I don't belive in and frankly I don't
see the connection here. Are you saying that the people who suffered
from the disaster are stupid? My signature is a response to the suing
culture in the US and all the stupid warning labels on absolutely
everything. For christmas I got a Homer Simpson bottle opener and the
box it came in said: "Not for use by children (or unintellegent
adults)". Nuff said.
I don't think I belong with the unicorn and the rainbow crowd. I think
I may have the ability to see a case from more than one side before
making an opinion, and at the same time realizing that not everone has
it the same way as I do. I also think I may be a tad more of a
humanitarian than you.
I'm not sure what you mean by your internet shadow so I'm not going to comment on that one.</span>

yeah, i think that sounds like carlin. and i do pretty much agree with most of it. my problem isn't with what occurred leading up to katrina, it's just how everything was handled after the matter, on all levels of government, not to mention the looters (and the finders), the rapers, and killers. the whole situation was bad and now we have the luxury of looking back with a microscope and dissecting how bad it was. but i think that's a good thing so hopefully things like this won't happen again any time soon. and this isn't a knock on the administration, because i'm sure it was backed fully by local officials as well; but isn't it ironic how quickly the casinos were opened up. i mean, isn't that how most people ussually lose their lives to begin with? and who's patronizing these establishments? are there actually tourists down there? do the celebrity home rebuilders need something to do in their spare time? what about opening back up the drug and grocery stores or how about the local businesses? seems to make a little more sense to me. anyways

I'm was speaking in bold so you could separate yours from mine and make
it easier to read. Could you please explain what you mean by my normal
backtracking/ironic bullshit?
Yes, I live in Norway. So? Does that not entitle me to an opinion? Does
freedom of speech only apply when someone agrees with you?
I would NOT speak german if it wasn't for your country. That's an
typical error. Have you heard of a little country that's called Russia?
They are the one who freed Norway during World War II. I'm not saying
that the US didn't contribute or made sacrifices, BUT THE US DID NOT
WIN WWII!!! I'm aware that many americans believe that (thanks to
Hollywood) but you're wrong.

First of all, you said it yourself. The Allies won the war. That's not
America. The Allies consisted of 26 nations. Of course some contributed
more than others but THE USA DID NOT WIN THE WAR!</span> It was a joint effort. I'm not saying that the US didn't do their share but THE USA DID NOT WIN THE WAR!</span>
By the way, Russia invaded Poland 16 days after Germany did.
I don't think you deserve my respect Mr. Cleanface. First you have to
separate the person from the meanings, then maybe grow up a bit and
then, maybe, we can have this discussion as equals and adults. Right
now you're acting like a little boy. If you find me a little fruity
that's your problem. It takes a little more than that to provoke me.

I would hope that we could all expressthosein this forum without resorting to shout-downs andwhat I characterize ashate speech. The phrase "shut the f**k up" has absolutely no place in this or any other forum (at least in my U.S. of A.).And come on, homosexual slams (i.e., "d**k in your mouth. . .")? Please.
Damn, bro, I'm half inclined to post a disclaimer (and perhaps an apology) to allnon-American forum members. They need to understand that yourviews posted here areyours individually, andthey should notattribute them to other Americans.
