My friend just told me about this guy. It is hasidic (jewish) reggae, and its pretty cool. The only album he has out is a live album recorded at Stubb's in Austin. Check it out. http://www.hasidicreggae.com/

I also like him. I had the chance to see him last month, a co-worker had been talking him up since august. He actually has a cd coming out in January, I think the 31st. I agree, give him a listen!

I bought that album last tuesday.. Its pretty awesome.. The guy has alot of talent. I cant wait for his studio release. I think he is a better reggae singer than 99% of the jamacian reggae singers today..

In addition to the Live At Stubb's album, there is a studio
album called Shake Off the Dust...Arise that dropped before the
live one.

live @ stubbs is great havent heard shake off the dust... Also his studio release wasnt a big release and probably doesnt sound as good as it could. His next studio will probably sound alot better imo. also

at matisyahu.org u can listen to some songs too.

I'm going to order the live one, but not from the site. The cd is $12, and then shipping to canada is $17. that's just not right.

I got the live @ stubbs. I like the music in the background if I don't pay attention too much to the lyrics. It makes me angry that every song is about religion, in the same way that zeolots can't see the forest for the trees. I'm sure such devout practicers would say that religion is in a different category as love, or the environment, or whatever, therefore every fucking song should be praising that shit. (I like to swear when talking about religion, it's like a tic) For me he loses credibility as an artist when his motives are suspect. Not that sharing the light is a bad motive, but it seems pedantic in a way.
boy I'm digging holes all around these threads today

He is great! He was an opening act for the OAR concert at the Garden in January and also came out with the band to rap a section of a song...the nytimes didn't like the raggae portion of the concert but who are they to influence our opinions.

For any fans of Matisyahu out there like myself I can't get enough of this guy I think he's so talented. Anyways I heard that he's dropping a new live CD/DVD the day after Christmas. I've seen him live before and he's amazing I can't wait to get the new record it's called "No Place to Be'! It's going to be amazing! yeah

I love King without a Crown, Beat Box, Close my Eyes, and Sea to Sea. Best songs on Live at Stubbs. I would love to see him live....
I have a friend who is Jewish and says that they listen to him and really get down in Temple. Everytime he talks about it I just picture all the 80 year olds moving and dancing to Beat Box..it is a great visual.
