If you don't like him now, you should after watching this. Filmed at the R & R Hall of Fame induction ceremony for George Harrison of the Beatles. This was All-Star jam of 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps.' Prince just stopped by to shred your face!!! The look on Dahni Harrison's face (Georges son) is priceless when Prince makes his way to the front of the stage. Oh shit!

I have watched this probably 20+ times and am blown away each time.

I just saw him on american idol last night. I am not a fan at all, but I gotta give the fellow mn resident some credit.

Well, I don't dislike his music, but I sort of dislike him after reading this (http://music.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,,2206460,00.html)

"His lawyers have forced his three biggest internet fansites to remove all photographs, images, lyrics, album covers and anything linked to the artist's likeness. A legal letter asks the fansites to provide "substantive details of the means by which you propose to compensate our clients [Paisley Park Entertainment Group, NPG Records and AEG] for damages."

I usually say that he is a genius, but this seems to not make sense.

On the other hand, I do think the pendulum is going to swing back to more ownership of music and video by the artists, and less freedom to copy and distribute it in the way it's currently being done online. It's pretty much a free-for-all right now and something's going to change that...don't know what or how or why, and I will probably mourn that change, but you've got to admit that it's bound to happen.

People want too too much to make money from things for it not to change.

(i.e. Napster then vs. now and of course, iTunes)

I wonder if Prince is really just trying to lead a revolution here in so doing.

Have you seen the youtube video in question? What he's trying to do is extreme and ridiculous all at the same time.

I just watched it. silly
Yes, pretty ridic. I doubt it's Prince himself pulling all the strings. However, he could stop it at any time, if he wanted to...couldn't he?

in my latest issue of billboard, they had the list of most money making tours/fests of 2007.
Prince was in the number one spot with his 20 something night tour in London at the same venue grossing at 22 million- so like a million a night.
number 2 spot was bonnaroo with 10 million, then Lolla with 9.... hmmm.... pretty disgusting.

however, i love Prince. and its a shame that his getting all weird and controlling.
he needs to chill out.

Well, I don't even know what to think about the purple one now.
Did you hear about this (http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2007/jun/29/business.pop)?
http://img.timeinc.net/time/daily/2007/0707/prince_0718.jpg

Time Magazine ran a story about it (http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1644427,00.html) (back in July...and SO off my radar)
When Prince's new album Planet Earth was released in the U.K. on July 15, almost 3 million people picked up a copy...
Prince didn't sell any copies of his album in the U.K. He gave them all away...
In an unprecedented deal, Prince granted British tabloid the Mail on Sunday exclusive rights to distribute his new album as a freebie...

"It's direct marketing," the pint-sized popster said when the deal was announced three weeks ago. "And I don't have to be in the speculation business of the record industry, which is going through a lot of tumultuous times right now."

As his fans rejoice — another middle finger to The Man! — the music industry is reeling.

---

I wonder who's running the show/his music distribution...Prince the man, or the business behind him.
I've always (well for 10 years now) thought him as kinda fickle and he definitely likes his privacy, but oh...nevermind, why try to understand someone like that?

I will however, share a story (or heck, two).
Years ago, when I was waitressing at an all nite place on Ocean Drive, he came to eat at 3 in the morning. Oddly enough, it was the last week of 1999. He wasn't partying though. The limo stayed parked right in front, and his security guard stood watch as he sat and ate in a part of the restaurant that was already closed -- as closed as an outdoor 24 hour sidewalk cafe can get. He was with his woman (or a woman, at least). I didn't wait on him, but we did all peak through a window and stare.

Another time, another year, I had tix to see him at Glam Slam, a club he used to own, here on South Beach. There were 4 shows booked, one early all ages and one late 21+ show, 2 nites in a row. They were announced about a week prior, and I hopped on the opportunity to see him in this small, intimate club. The tix were cheap, like $10!
A friend of mine was in town, so we hurried over that nite giddy with anticipation...only to find that all our excitement was wasted.
There was a big sign that said "Prince show canceled due to family illness"

The rumor around town was that he'd had some falling out with the new club owners/promoters so he just said "forget it."

I think I lost the faith right then and there, but I still think his musicianship is great.
We're not music fans because of their business skills, right? That's what good management is for. And not everyone has that. sigh

more craziness from prince's camp

Paul Gunson, better known as the blogger behind Adventures of a Taxi Driver on lep.co.uk, uploaded footage of himself driving down a street off North Road in Preston onto video-sharing website YouTube – with the sound of Let's Go Crazy by Prince coming from his stereo.

That was enough for the site to pull the film – called A Drive Around Meadow St, Preston – after pressure from Prince's NPG Records label who insisted it violated copyright.

The Walton-le-Dale dad-of-two said: "I never thought for a minute it would be a breach of copyright. It was an original CD I bought and it just happened to be playing in my car at the same time as I was filming.
