happy to see this headline on the drudge report today.

article here (http://apnews.myway.com/article/20060607/D8I3KN4G1.html)

personally i see no reason to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. the sex of the couple doesn't affect what should be upheld. marriage is a proclimation between two people who love each other. hell, the main reason i'm married is to make things like insurance easier when we have kids. nothing changed when we said i do except my last name. it's absurd to me when i hear people say that gay marriage would ruin the sanctity of marriage. with the divorce rate in this country, i'd say that's already shot to hell.

but that's my $.02, and yours would be?

I'd agree with you tink. Who gives a fuck about the so called religious sanctity of marriage, when in the next motion passed the government sends other citizens abroad to kill other people.(just as an example, not in reference to any one historical event).
I think we need a little more separation of the church and state, not from each other; but, from everything else.

To me it really comes down to... who cares? Live and let live.

oh yeah, Canada legalized it about a year ago. Now if you can believe it, I think we're new members of the gay tourism/marriage/honeymoon business.
I'm sure the states doesn't want any part of anything we legalize first, even if it has merit. I just wish the marijuanna legalization lobbyists in Canada were as organized as the gay rights people.guess that is par for the course- or bud for the bowl (ha ha)Edited by: swaytosway

i think part of the problem is we need to seperate religion from this issue (i know, impossible.) but in reality marriage is not a religious union. it becomes so if the couple chooses. i'm a married atheist. my wedding was not religious, it was a celebration of our love. maybe we need to eliminate to word marriage altogether. call it whatever you want.

and can i say i hate the argument that people are ok with gays being legally recognized and having the same benefits, just don't call it marriage. no one has ever been able to make a logical argument for this. at least not that i've heard.smileys/smiley7.gif

it's funny sway, bout an hour or so ago i told my husband we should move to canada. don't know that it will actually happen, but we've talked about moving the hell out of the bible belt. course if the marijuana lobbyists get there shit together you might have a new neighborsmileys/smiley2.gif

oooh there's massive debate on that here...half our polis are going on about protecting the 'sanctity' of marriage and that it's sacred between a man and a woman...and all that bullshit!

I agree with you that the divorce rate is so high that those people areabusing the real meaning of marriage (if there is one!).

I mean, who can say what people can and can't do?? I'd love to find out that our prime minister's kids were gay...that would be HILARIOUS!!

Live and let live...Sway's right smileys/smiley1.gif

the buffoonery ofso-called intelligent people over this issue is hilarious. theytwistthemselves 7 ways to Sunday trying to build a reasoned and rational argument in support of this crazy ban. the truth is no REASONED, RATIONAL argumentexists.

oh, there are ample bigotted bases given to support the ban, but this isn't about allowing you to ban something that might make you personallyuncomfortable.

we areliving in the enlightened age--let's act like it. give upbigots, gaymarriage, like the abolition of slavery, like civil rights, like women's sufferage, is coming and you can't stop it. you might--MIGHT--delay it, but it's coming. and we will be better for it.

peace and tolerance . . .

this is refreshing. i've talked with so many people that i would usually call intelligent and level headed, but debating this issue chases all reason from their head.

Does this mean I have to start blowing my buddies, and taking it up the ass? If so, please Lord God Almighty, send me back to the stone ages. J/K...http://www.philadelphonic.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

Anyway, is anybody actually surprised that this Amendment was overturned? Personally, I don'treally careeither way, this is truly a non-issue for me. I'm not saying I am pro-gay marriage, I honestly just don't care...

Hey 26 states in the US have no specific legislation banning bestiality so why the big fuss over gay marriage?

I learned this last night discussing this topic around the BBQ with my husband when he said something about marrying a goat and I said that was wrong and he said not in Washington and Minnesota, and we made a bet about how many states have laws against bestaility and I saddly must admit Ilost the bet smileys/smiley5.gif. 26 states. Can you beleive that?Edited by: Barefoot2Dream

hahaha. I'm totally for Gay marriage... it doesnt bother me in the least. i dont see how it is AFFECTING my "sanctity" of my marriage one day.Well maybe becauseI dont understand how marriage is "holy". so I dont know.

I agree with everyone that marriage should be a celebration of your love and about the perks of getting a tax break and shit like that.

I'd personallynever get married if it wasnt for the benefits and tax breaks, etc. I dont need a piece of paper to prove my love to someone or even a wedding/celebration. but i kinda do wanna dress up.... hahasmileys/smiley4.gif

of course there's also the theroy that this was thrown out there to distract us from other goings on in the country. get us focusing on other things than bush's 35% approval rating maybe?

the president doth protest too much, methinks

perhaps it's a smokescreen to cover his in the closet homosexuality and his penchant for wearing silky womens panties. "Look at that, in the sky, it's depravity, it's the erosion of traditional values," with that diversion he bent over the kneeling Mr. America and mounted his ass.

(that's quite enough of that)
