i want to learn to tattoo and pierce people(ha ha ha stace, i edited it, now who looks silly AH HA HA HA HA. nah, im just kidding, you know i wouldnt play you like that, boo. smileys/smiley1.gif)
whaddya all think of that? ive been thinking(oh.. shit!) and i feel like im just not cut out for business world and that sort of thing. i know i dont have the patience to open my own photography studio (all the paperwork and that sort of thing) and even if i get my master's then what? teaching college? i mean, that might be alright and i certainly have nothing against them since they are the ones whove helped mold me into the artist i am. but im just not sure id be happydoing that, at least not as my main focus.
it takes a few years of doing bitch work(incidentally so does photography and other art careers) before you can even touch people, but im asking now: who's gonna let me practice on them?? i swear i wont draw boobs instead of whatever tattoo you want.. smileys/smiley2.gifEdited by: LipstickVogue

Most of my friends are in the same position you are. We spent all this time in college to get a degree and then what? People would always say I was so lucky because I knew I was going to be a teacher. But my friends with the psyc, social work, english, and art ba's are like now what? Go for it! Life it too short being stuck in a job you don't like.

i think that'd be a great thing to go for. especially getting to design stuff for people. i'd be willing to offer my body for tattooing.
don't ya just love it when people offer their body to ya?smileys/smiley2.gif

sweet! i havent even started yet and ive already got people offering their bodies to me..
thanks for the support, everyone. i dont have the heart to study anything else but art in school. i just cant imagine doing anything else. and a job like that i think would fit me really well. i was in one of the local tattoo parlors again today getting more tips from their piercer. hes super nice. he told me to just come in, hang out get to know everyone. if a shop isnt taking apprentices at that time, check back in 3 months and hang out more in the meantime getting to know everyone. he also told me its easier to get a tattoo apprentiship by starting as a piercer. tons of information this guy gave me, so now im all wound up and excited about it.

yeah, just do it. the worst that could happen is losing money. and you'll regret not doing it if you back out.

funny that you should bring this up now. i am contemplating another tattoo on my left shoulder. if you take the leap, and i am still inclined, an august tattooing (sp?) is a possibility. cuz i am still st. louis bound. i'll PM you with details.
i told ya i would own a LSV someday.smileys/smiley2.gif

I've always wanted my chinese name (in characters of course). It means "Virtuous Beauty" so it's actually my name PLUS a cool meaning hehe.
BUT I'm too scared to get the actual tattoo...it's not the pain, it's the regret i might feel afterwards...(not really part of chinese culture per se)...
And in the low down on the 1st topic, I did a 180 career change...had a commerce degree, now in the middle of a health science one to be a dietitian...so it's not so bad...do what you love, not what you think you have to do...

i feel that it relates to my career, you know? and i didnt really have a solid idea of what i would acctually do with the art degree once i got it. in the process ive learned to draw well, so even though you dont need a degree to become a tattoo artist, my studies have helped me out. i guess i just feel its appropriate.
i waited for a while to get my first tattoo. i was sure i wanted it, but i waited anyway. i never changed my mind about it so i did it. i still have no regrets. i love it and i want more. who knows, maybe one day i will regret it but it feels like its always been there. wise of you to not jump into it though. if you still want that after a while, go for it. and somewhere that you can cover it, should you want to.

my best friend and i want to get simple little infinity signs together,
to represent the friendship we've had for nearly 19yrs. it might go on
an inner wrist.
i also wouldn't mind some sort of tattoo that ties the mr. and jr.
sauces together. if i get brave enough, i may put it over my heart.
i want tattoos behind/below my ears. not sure of what yet, but i know i want them.
also, when i get a tummy tuck, i'm going to put the cloud design from
the robe that i got my dragon from on the front of my hips/pelvis area
maybe, eventually something around one or both ankles..
i want a lot more tattoos lol i don't think i'll get anything as big as
my dragon again, but i've got plenty of room for lots of little ones smileys/smiley17.gif

oh i have an image that keeps growing that i want. i want a twisting vine that will run from the top of my back that will end in extensive roots below my two lizards. i want the top to branch out like a tree and then add in symbols that represent the people i love best. i want a gutar man somewhere near the base for my hubby. and more and more and more...
the way i see tattooing is even if the way i feel about the image changes, it will remind me of a time in my life. besides, i don't think i'll run around showing off my back too much when i'm 80.smileys/smiley17.gif

Promise us you will never refer to yourself as a "tatooist"(sp?).. A girl with yourskills(proper color blending...shading...freehand styling)and your creativity &imagination would be a "tattoo artist". smileys/smiley16.gif
Lots of tattoo artists have formal art training. I went to school for a career in exotic animal medicine (snakes, lizards, zoo animals & stuff) and I ended up landing ass-backwards in the corporate world....Sure I still bubble into the office in my ponytail & flipflops....I never lost my soul....just as much passion for what I do at work as I do everything else in my life... "cuz that's how I roll". smileys/smiley2.gifI guess my point being life can take a 180 on ya at anytime. Roll with it!
ok now I am rambling.... sorry little slow at the office today.
LSV, you have passion & a fire in your soulthat's outta control. You put that passion into anything you choose to do and you are going to go far.Edited by: Barefoot2Dream

Plus your "boobs" comment made me think of that episode of Family Guy:
Tattoo man: So what do you want on your thighs?
Man: I want a skull.
Tattoo man: Ok well i can draw a nice Kermit the frog. How about a nice Kermit the frog?
Man: No I want a skull!
Tattoo man: Ok... well I am gonna go ahead and do Kermit the frog.

well, i wouldnt expect everyone to, although from what i understand, one doesnt even get to touch people until 2 or 3 years of bitch work and even then i think they make you do it on yourself first.
and thanks. im really excited about this. at least about researching it more and all that. i just dont want to be stuck behind a desk doing page layout and wearing a pants suit. not that i think its bad or stupid, i really dont think i am cut out for that. even if i dont end up becomming a tattoo artist, i think the process of learning about it and researching it will be fun.

there is not anything wrong with sitting behind a desk, you are right some people are just not made for that you have to find what makes you feel good about getting up everyday and going to work. This could be a great thing for you. Sure you won't start at the top noone ever does, but with hard work and dedication you can be a great artist of the skin. I can understand your worries about that 9 to 5 office bs. I had to do it for 6 years and I hope to never have to do it again. It wasn't for me either. Funk that. Though now I too must find what works for me. You never know when inspiration will hit you, so when it does after the spinning stars around your head are gone you gotta go for it. You will kick ass!!
