wow, what a vast web of deceit, greed, and shameful power. I find when I read stuff like this, it all makes so much sense, fills in so many gaps, explains why things are as fucked as they are. How do you slay a giant?

there are so many things going through my head after really looking into that. i was aware of halliburton and cheney's involvement, but when you sit down and look at how long it's been going on, how much destruction they cause. it's just mind blowing. it really makes me wonder what i can do. i guess the biggest thing is to spread awareness. get more people outraged and demanding that something be done. it doesn't seem like enough, but it's a start.
thanks for the link ragmop

but it's not only the $, it's the total apparent lack of scruples in providing the services they are contracted to- like giving the troops contaminated water, that seems to be the tip of the iceberg.

it's funny you say that, cuz we look at the ice berg theory at uni...there's SO many underlying factors that cause these things...but yes, it's not just $$$ it's the way people are treated and it's so obvious that they don't give a shit about the welfare of anyone...hmm...sucks!

Nice one Rag. Lol! Anyway, back to Halliburton...
I have to admit that I am a little ignorant as far as Halliburton is concerned, and I would like to have a better understanding of what exactly it is that they do, and why so many people are against them.
I know they were hired by the US Gov. to do heavy construction repairing bridges, building roads, repairingoil rigs/wellsetc etc etc. basically securing and re-buildingalot of the infrastructure of the country, focusing mainly on the oil rigs/wells and their surroundings.I know they got many no-bid contracts for work in Iraq worth hundreds of millions. I also know that they are a huge global Corporation that employs and provides jobs to 10's and 100's of thousands of people, and that VP Cheney was the CEO.
I guess I am wondering why people are so against this company? Is it because VP Cheney was the CEO before taking office? Is it because they are in the oil biz? Is it because they got so many contracts in <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Iraq</st1:place></st1:country-region>?
It seems to me that they are the biggest and best company at what they do, and they are willing to work in a hostile/violent/insurgent/terrorist filled environment in <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Iraq</st1:place></st1:country-region>, right? Soooo...why shouldn't they get the big contracts? It's not like they are being paid for doing nothing. They are working in a extremely hostile environment andare providing anabundance ofservices for which they are being paid alot of money.
Is there any other company out there who does this type of thing and could have been hired instead towork in<st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Iraq</st1:place></st1:country-region>? Do they have any competition? Is there an alternative to Halliburton??? Or, do they get shit on solely because they are the biggest and the best and they have ties to Cheney?
Serious questions.

it would be one thing if they did the work they were paid to do. the work is othen shoddy, half-assed is a good way to explain it. you can read (http://www.halliburtonwatch.org/news/contamination.html) about them serving spoiled food and contaminated water to troops they conracted to serve. they are also notorious for drastically overcharging for the work that they do. here is a summation (http://www.halliburtonwatch.org/shareholder2004.html) of people's complaints or should i say what they are being investigated for. as to other companys, i have to admit that i'm not sure. i would assume that there is not a halliburton monopoly, simply because i think we would hear about that as well.
and yes i realize that all the articles are from ragmop's link, but i'm not awake enough to go and find the others that i've previously looked at.

word, tink.
i have PLENTY of beefs with halliburton.and yes, cheney is a piece of the puzzle, but only because it sickens me that the "second in command" in this country, who should be a public servant, is nothing more than a war profiteer.
i find myself throwing shoes at the screen when isee and hear that bastard pontificate to us about all his party-controlled government is doing to combat terrorism and rogue regimes. all the while, the very company that he ran, and from whom he continues to receive deferred compensation, secretly violates our COUNTRY'S trade embargo against Iran (our supposed enemy)--by selling them billions of dollars worth of goods and services.halliburton profits,Iran benefits.wasn't the purpose of the embargo punitive--to makeIran feel some hardship, in the hopes of making that country change its aggressive ways? exactly how is halliburton helping the US by making things easier on Iran?
i am not against profit. but these MFers claim to be free-market boys. yet, theyshut the door (via embargo) to ALL competition (other US and international corporations) andletone exclusive company in through the back door to benefit. that's bullshit, and is not a legitimate function of the US government. if halliburton wants to privatelyrape and pillage the world for profit, fine. market forces should dictate your company's growth and potential profit. but don't you dare use our fucking taxpayer moneyto line the pockets of certain government official's pet corporations--all the while tarnishing our entire country's reputation in the world community.
one last note: if the Heinz corporation (as in Theresa Kerry Heinz) had violated the trade embargo with Iran: 1) the full weight of the Dept of Justice would be mobilized quickly to prosecute the guilty parties and 2) there would be a very public media campaign launched by the righties labelling the company, Theresa and John as anti-American forsupporting a terrorist nation by violating the embargo. so i have to ask,WHY THE FUCK ISN'T THAT HAPPENING NOW?! especially given our "liberal media"? give me a fucking break.
war is peace, up is down, knowledge is ignorance . . .
peace, i am pissed and i am outta here . . . smileys/smiley7.gif
