Kyoto is starting to drive me round the bend. I try to keep up…dig dig dig. At first I thought -this seems like a great initiative, long overdue. Now with all the politicians in the ring, environmentalists spewing hysteria? or hard line facts?, and scientists climbing the ropes…I feel knocked-out.

Above is a little refresher on the Kyoto protocol if you think this might be a new type of Kashi cereal.
So Canada was in wholeheartedly under our Liberal (previous) prime minister. Our new Conservative PM, Mr. Harper, is doing an about face and not keeping up the commitments made. Personally, I think he has a thing for Bush and wants to be his girlfriend, maybe get asked to the prom. This government says the previous one dragged its butt to do anything and then signed up for unattainable goals. The last government says that the current government does not want to upset its support base which is in Alberta, no surprise they’d be the energy/oil superstars with the all the $.
The US hasn’t joined, nor Australia- of the who’s who world list. From what I gather, Bush doesn’t want to do anything to infringe upon the magnate that is the United States economy. Or could it be that he is the master from which Canada’s PM has been taking lessons. Can we say back pocket of the energy oil companies? 50 million in donations to get him puppeted in the white house, that's what I read.
And of course, all this info, I gather it from here and there, reputable, possibly disreputable sources, how do I know? My head is spinning.
I do know North America leads the way in per capita greenhouse gas emissions. A penchant for fossil fuels to run these great lands. A truck and car for every man, isn’t that an amendment to the Constitution? Europe by far shames us, taking action even before Kyoto’s inception, moving towards more green forms of energy and the infrastructure thats needed to support it. Denmark and Britain have met their Kyoto goals thus far. There also seems to be an increasing amount of back peddling from more than just our fair countries as of late.
Then I read a letter that had apparently been penned by 60 world renowned scientists, basically saying ‘don’t believe the hype.’
************************************************** **********************"While the confident pronouncements of scientifically unqualified environmental groups may provide for sensational headlines, they are no basis for mature policy formulation. The study of global climate change is, as you have said, an "emerging science," one that is perhaps the most complex ever tackled. It may be many years yet before we properly understand the Earth's climate system. Nevertheless, significant advances have been made since the protocol was created, many of which are taking us away from a concern about increasing greenhouse gases. If, back in the mid-1990s, we knew what we know today about climate, Kyoto would almost certainly not exist, because we would have concluded it was not necessary."
"'Climate change is real' is a meaningless phrase used repeatedly by activists to convince the public that a climate catastrophe is looming and humanity is the cause. Neither of these fears is justified. Global climate changes all the time due to natural causes and the human impact still remains impossible to distinguish from this natural 'noise.' The new Canadian government's commitment to reducing air, land and water pollution is commendable, but allocating funds to 'stopping climate change' would be irrational. We need to continue intensive research into the real causes of climate change and help our most vulnerable citizens adapt to whatever nature throws at us next."

Who the fuck knows huh? I play with my Rubik’s cube for a while, I get one side, sometimes 2, you know when I go for the third the whole thing screws right up.
Any opinions? Clarity?
(Intersting article, I think)
