What up what up what up? Greetings!
I'm headed into a double day off after a good first week on the road. It started in Corpus Christie, TX and ended up in Austin at the Austin City Limits Festival. The fest was amazing...Where to start…hmmmm?
I arrived on site Saturday afternoon and did some press and radio interviews. Then I went to the kid’s stage where I caught the tail end of Matt Costa's performance. After he finished we decided to play the Beatles song "The 2 of Us" for the kids. Then I rocked my show playing "Jungle Gym" "Milk and Cereal" "Elmo’s World" and others. I had the kids yelling milk and cereal and that was cool.
I left the site and headed to the coolest store in Austin--Factory People. They have all the fly gear there, the dopest jeans and shirts. They laced me up and I was on my way to a cocktail party to honor Quentin Tarantino and Fiona Apple. I had the pleasure to speak with Fiona for a little while. FYI, we were label mates on Epic/550 Records and her old bass player Keith Lowe was in the Special Sauce for a tour. She is an amazing singer.
Then my manager Jay and I hit sound check and headed back to the hotel for some eats and a nap before the late show that night at La Zona Rosa.
Here's where shit starts getting crazy
I get to the bus before the show and I'm informed that 7 time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong and Matthew McConaughey are sitting in my dressing room. I head back and sure enough there they are. Crazy! Both Matthew and Lance were super cool. Matthew jammed the whole night on the side of the stage. Mark Broussard and Ben Elman from Galactic joined us on stage the show was slamming then we partied till 4 in the morning with everybody. That was just the first day!
Sunday was no brunch-having-no-laying around-sleepin in situation. It was hangover, early press, watching the Eagle's terribly devastating OT loss to the Giants who caught us sleeping. Hit the gym, more press then a last minute hustle to the main stage where I sat in with Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals on "steal my kisses". By then it was 6:50PM and I was on stage in an hour for my festival hit. I hit the catering made a hot plate for after the show, ate 3 cups of Acai smoothee with granola and an ice coffee then hustled to the bus to get suited up for the show. Mark Boyce and I made some adjustments to the set list, I took a slug of makers to calm the nerves and hit the stage facing a crowd of 15-20,000. Whooooooo
We had 45 minutes to take care of business, festival rules style. I think we slam-dunked the show and we were all pretty happy with the performance, the crowd was amazing, the new material went over big time and that was a wrap. 20 minutes after we finished a huge thunderstorm came through and it was like a mad exodus from the fest so we really lucked out weather wise. Give thanks!!
Now I'm headed to NYC to visit my sis and her new husband for 2 days then out to Tucson and Cally for tour. That's it that's all. Big thanks to everyone from ACL!
Peace in the Middle East!
