i just hope it isn't like last season where they don't resolve anything till the end. i'll give up if it's crap and then something interesting in the last three minutes. i really didn't enjoy that. here's hoping to forward progression!

"A Tale of Two Cities"
SEASON PREMIERE
In the season premiere episode, Jack, Kate and Sawyer begin to discover what they are up against as prisoners of "The Others."
Here's a 'Lost' guide, to help you find your wayBy Chuck Barney
CONTRA COSTA TIMES
Does Lost have you feeling lost? Don't sweat it. Here's our handy A-to-Z glossary to help fans get back up to speed and newcomers get a clue:
A - AARON: The infant son of castaway Claire, born on the island.
B - BLACK ROCK: A marooned slave ship where the castaways found shackled skeletons in the hold and the dynamite used to blow open the hatch.
C - CHARLIE: Castaway and former bassist for the rock band DriveShaft. A recovering drug addict, he discovered, in the wreckage of a small drug-smuggling plane, religious statues containing heroin.
D - DHARMA INITIATIVE: A research project founded by the Hanso Foundation dedicated to the study of human behavior. Built research facilities on the island, including the infamous hatch, where occupants were instructed to input a string of numbers into a computer every 108 minutes or else.
E - EKO, MR.: Castaway and former drug-runner in Nigeria who got religion after his brother, a priest, was gunned down.
F - FRECKLES: Nickname that Sawyer, the island's hunky renegade, often uses when flirting with fellow castaway Kate.
G - GALE, HENRY: Name used by creepy leader of the Others. Was held prisoner by the castaways, but the tables have turned and he now has Jack, Kate and Sawyer in his custody.
H - HATCH: Underground lair once occupied by Desmond, who handled the number-punching duties until Locke took over. When those duties were purposely shirked, it triggered an electromagnetic blast in which the hatch was destroyed.
I - ISLAND: Spooky piece of tropical turf inhabited by the castaways somewhere in the South Pacific. Oceanic Flight 815 was traveling from Sydney to Los Angeles when it encountered turbulence, went off course, and crashed.
J - JACK: Spinal surgeon and unofficial leader of the castaways. Now in custody of the Others.
K - KELVIN: Apparently one of the original occupants of the hatch. Gave cryptic instructions to Desmond to type in the numbers every 108 minutes to "save the world." Died prior to Flight 815 crash.
L - LOCKE: The island mystic, a wheelchair-using office drone before the crash who became miraculously ambulatory on the island. His fate was unknown after the hatch explosion.
M - MONSTER: An enigmatic island force seen by only a few survivors.
N - NUMBERS: The digits 4-8-15-16-23-42, played by Hurley to win millions in the lottery, after which a streak of horrible luck convinced him they are cursed. Eerily, they show up in several places, including the hatch's exterior. The full sequence is the code plugged into the Dharma hatch computer every 108 minutes - 108 being the sum of the Numbers.
O - OTHERS, THE: Scruffy group of islanders who have wrought havoc on the plane-crash survivors, kidnapping Walt, young son of Michael, but then exchanging him for Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Regarded as sinister, but leader Henry Gale insists, "We're the good guys."
P - PENNY: Ex-lover of former hatch occupant, Desmond, who apparently hired researchers to locate him and the island. When last seen, she received, via telephone, this urgent declaration: "I think we found it."
Q - QUARANTINE: Word etched into the hatch lid, seemingly warning that the outside world is a hazard.
R - ROUSSEAU: Unstable Frenchwoman and sole survivor of a scientific expedition marooned on the island.
S - SAYID: Castaway and former member of the Iraqi Republican Guard who was last seen scouting a deserted Others camp after sailing to the north side of the island with castaways Sun and Jin.
T - TAILIES: Fan lingo for the passengers in the plane's tail section, which broke off in the crash and landed on another part of the island. Only a handful of tailies survived the crash.
U - U.S. MARSHAL: Deceased federal officer who tracked Kate for three years after her still-unknown crime, eventually nabbing her in Australia. He was escorting her back to the States on the doomed flight.
V - VINCENT: Dog belonging to Walt; lone animal survivor of the crash.
W - WALT: Michael's young son, who may possess reality-bending mental powers.
X - "X-FILES, THE": Another popular mythology-based show often cited in reference to Lost - as in, "Will Lost fail to deliver on promised resolutions as The X-Files did?"
Y - YEMI: Deceased younger brother of Mr. Eko.
Z - ZOOLOGY: One aspect of the Dharma Initiative (Also see: Island polar bear, pesky boars, and, um, a Dharma-branded shark).

it started out so strong. i was disappointed in the end.
SPOILER ALERT!!!
i don't give a shit if jack's ex is happy or not. and ben telling what's her butt good job?
what you mean there's trickery running afoul? you've got to be shitting me? the others aren't telling the truth?! but better than most of last season.
i'm just hoping they haven't dug themselves into a hole they can't get out of. time will tell i guess.

agree. i thought the beginning at the book club meeting was great. then it got boring with all three hostages at seperate places.

i'm interested to see how they develope the rift between juila and ben. they obviously aren't on the same page. i just hope they stick with forward movement this season. at least they will only be taking one long break, and we won't be guessing each week if it's going to be new.

yeah i dont like the 2 new people either...it'd have been better if they died and ekko stayed. i liked him........... and i hope julia isnt lying and he botches that surgery...however i do like ben as an actor crazy so maybe he shouldnt die though......

that is an interesting story line, especially the more i ponder it. is julia lying to jack so she can take over? who's really the bad guy here? are both ben and julia lying to try to manipulate jack into performing the surgery? good stuff right there.

wasn't able to stay awake wed, night, but tivo'ed it and just watched the first episode of the new season... thought it was pretty good. wasn't sure if julia was actually going to let sawyer and kate go, especially since kate radioed jack in front of her - she could have easily killed them after kate told jack the story. also liked learning about julia's past, even though it brought about more questions.
