I know it's a bit early, but I just got my world vision gift catalog in the mail. Last year, I gave my family donation gifts, like a chicken, fruit trees, gardening kits for 3rd world recipients. There are also gifts that can benefit those in your own country, if you prefer to keep it close to home.
I just don't see the point any more of superfluous spending on trinkets and baubles at a predetermined date, $ spent which a large part of, goes toward giving big business more $.
I'm not sure how well my gifts went over...no one took the gifts back that they gave me, so it must've been ok. Anyway, I don't really care. If they didn't like em and wanted to 'get back' at me, they could just shoot 'eye for an eye' and get back at me with the same- and that'd be just perfect.

i'm intrigued by the site. i've been looking around the sight and i have a question. do you have any idea what they are teaching about HIV/AIDS prevention? i'd love to do a donation for my dad for christmas, but if they don't teach about the sue of condoms and focus only on abstinence, well then i'll find another orginization.

one of my students gave a duck in my name to a village in Africa two years ago. and last year when we were studying Africa (i taught geography and math last year), my students raised enough money to buy four goats for a village in Africa. i think it's a great idea and am glad it's spreading.

Yeah it's a good idea, i'd totally be up for that...if only I could get my superficial materialistic sister to agree too....Last christmas I told her I was going to design and make her some tank tops and she got mad that I wasn't going to buy her something costing more than $100...

a gift is a gift; no need to ask if they agree

exactly... it's the thought that counts, if they don't like the fuckin gift, that's extranneous information that the gift giver does not need. (kidding, sort of)

check out this site www.oaktreefoundation.org (http://www.oaktreefoundation.org) they go into africa and i believe south america to help out with educating about HIV/AIDS. It's amazing...I'm part of our uni's health promotion network and the victorian manager was a guest speaker...interesting stuff...
