I'm just passing on the stories I found interesting this morning, albeit a little nasty, not so fluffy and warm.
The first one is about the push towards biofuel, in an effort to keep the place green, less carbon emissions, la de da. Countries which are actively pursuing this find they don't have enough agricultural land to support all the plants they need. In this case, palm oil for europe. So they subsidize other countries Indonesia, Malaysia, for example. What is now being found is that although the biofuel has the capacity to be greener, it also has the capacity in production to be worse for the environment. It said Indonesia has quickly climbed to the 3rd spot for CO2 emissions, behind the US and China, mostly because they have been clearing land for these plantations and draining + burning peat bogs. "Oh dear," I said.

This 2nd one is about sextuplets born in BC. 2 died already. The parents are Jehovah's Witnesses, therefore not wanting any blood transfusions for the children, would accept blood subsitutes. Recently 3 of the 4 surviving were put into govt custody, so the transfusions could be given, then returned to parental custody after. I certainly don't agree with much a JW has to tell me at my front door and I don't agree with senseless loss of life...yet there is also something disturbing about the government and even health care having the last say. I guess I'm imaginging some futuristic covert plot coming into play. I guess it's also important to distinguish these are children which cannot make their own choices yet and need to be given the chance to live long enough to make choices for themselves. But then we could get on to the astronomical medical costs to keep severley premature multiple infants alive, in addition to the likelyhood they could have multiple mental or physical disabilities through their lives. But then we could get on the craziness of people sticking a dozen embryos into their uterus, in an attempt to make 1 baby, then deciding a carton of kids is always good to have on hand, or something like that ;) Finally, I said, "oh dear."
