We use Iams dog food. I think their web site is getting overloaded with hits. I'm worried about our Chile, she has been throwing up a lot, and had some kind of attack yesterday, rolling around on the floor, and banging into stuff. I made her rice and ground beef this morning, but she won't touch it.

Yeah, I heard about that...terrible. Luckily we use Science Diet with Tess and always have.

Hope Chile is OK Miss Shark. Might want to give your Vet a call and let him know any changes you have observed over the past couple days. I guarantee if Emily heard about this and we used any of those products we would have been at the Emergency Vet last night. She's a freak about that dog.

Thanks Mr. C...I'm trying not to overreact, but she seemed to have gotten worse, and is, as I type, off the the emergency clinc ):

Not sure if it's a good or bad thing, but upon futher reading, I did find out that the dry food was not effected, just the wet food, bad I guess because it leaves the cause unknow for now.

Off to watch Grand Master Flash get it to occupy my mind....don't push me...

I'm very sorry to say that she passed away shortly after arriving at the emergency clinic. The vets said it was most likely a brain tumor that had metastized.

Sorry to hear that Shark. It's always tough to lose a pet.

Luckily for me, my dogs eat an Australian brand of food...no recalls, and so far so good.

Thank you all so much for your kind words. I think telling our girls was harder on usthan them, at 5, 3 and 1, I'm not sure they really get it(I'll resist the urge to toss their picture in here, in a non-picture thread, as is my habit). So we find ourselves petless for the first time in our nearly 19 year relationship. The one thing that I wish I had done was taken a the time from putting the girls down for a 'nap' to see Chile off.

Liet, so sorry to hear about your kitty, at one point we had 3 cats and 2 dogs, and it's never easy, whether you know it's coming or not.

I wanted to start a what song never falis to make you laugh/smile thread, but I haven't figured out how to get a song link on here yet.....Anyone?????

damn china, seems they've always got their hands in human rights abuses, add to that consumer abuse & pet abuse.
Seems they have found melamine laced in the gluten of the pet food, which it is supposed the purpose would be to cheaply heighten the protein content. buffed up kibble, those bastards. the people involved deny, deny, deny the allegations, but apparently this company buys scrap melamine all year long. maybe it's a covert plot, to shift the focus from all the organs they harvest.
Or say it ain't so...greedy greedy greed.

now it's been found this salvaged feed has been fed to pigs in the US. The link here cites pigs in 3 states have been eating it, in my paper today it says 6. It also says the risk to humans is low; but, it still shows how our food system fans out, trickles down, and is easily corrupted.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/04/26/melamine.hogs.ap/index.html

In canada, it says they are going to start testing all vegetable protein coming from china which is intended for humans, despite china's assurances they will stop this practice.

Another reason why I think it is important to try and eat more local foods, not only the reduction of energy and emissions, or the increased freshness & nutrient content, but also just knowing how it got from living to your plate.

I think I'm going to buy this book, it's called the 100-mile diet.

oops
http://100milediet.org/category/about/#1

it says the average ingredient on the north american dinner plate has travelled fifteen hundred miles
that is a lot of travelling to consider in the big scheme of things
