I try to make somewhat of an effort to learn something new everyday. It’s not always profound but sometimes you never know. Even when it’s not that big a deal learning means growing. When you stop growing you're just starting to die so you better keep your eyes and ears open and see what's new or undiscovered out there.
Today I met up with Dana Caulley. Dana is the Sax player from Morphine and an old friend from Boston. Dana invited me out to a party and once there I met another musician, Jeremy Lyons. Jeremy is a great slide guitar player and bluesman who recently relocated from New Orleans. (Hurricane Katrina). I convinced Jeremy to come to the crib and give me a lesson tonight. We drank a few Guinness and jammed Robert Johnson and Mississippi Fred Mcdowell for a couple hours. It was great. What a player. He showed me some amazing licks. I felt like I was cheating a little bit by not trying to figure it out straight off the record. There's really no better way to learn than by someone teaching you though. After he split I went over the jams "Breaking Down" and "Walking Blues". Totally sick!
Peace in the Middle East
