....and veins in my teeth.

Okay here's my rambling review of my experience at the show that I saw with my sis:

The Expendables...

What came first the chicken or the egg? What comes first, or where does the energy start at a live show, with the band or the crowd? The place was nearly empty, and the energy nearly nonexistent. I would like to see these guys play on thier home turf I think it'd be a whole different show. To sum it up in one word, I would say FLAT.

Highlights of GLaSS in no particular order: Back of the Bus, Don't Drop It, Banger, Can't go Back to Jersey, This Ain't Living, accoustic set Gimmie some Lovin', and some serious slide action, Walk to Slide, Astronaut, Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side, some of A Tribe Called Quest's Can I Kick it?, Cold Beverage, Baby's got Sauce, Beautiful, Wiggle Like a Worm( I swore I wouldn't, but I did), Blues Music, Missing my Baby, Friday Night, and a song I've never heard before sung by Houseman United Cab, for a first listen, from the gut I like it. I may have missed some, I sure didn't take notes, heck I may have added some, but that's what I recall....

Alice? Remember Alice? My sis and I spent Saturday morning greedily burning CDs off of each other iTunes, we ran out of blank CDs as a matter of fact. So I'm jammin my new tunes on the ride home and up comes Alice's Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie. Not many people can write an 18 1/2 minute long song that works, and works so well. Arlo, at least I think, was the first concert my sis and I saw together by our selves. It was at Chicago Fest on Navy Pier. Here's to many more to come!!!!!

sweet fun. yipppeeee!
that's too bad about the response for the expendables, I definately would agree it's a symbiotic energy, crowd to performer, that's what I love about live, well that's one thing.
Alice's restaurant was my favorite movie when I was about 13 or 14, that is good stuff.

Sounds like a good time...

I think that an opening act's success depends wholly on the crowd...some people just hate the opening act regardless, others, if they sound ok might listen, and then there's the ones who jam it up like they're the main act.

Some freak opened for the Chili peppers...worst thing I've ever seen...we have our melbourne international comedy festival on and i thought he was here to perform for that it was such a joke. got booed of the stage all 3 nights in a row...

Ouch....I hear what you guys are saying, about it coming from the crowd. I've been to too many concerts to count. I was 13, funny enough sway, when I saw Arlo, and that was by no means my first concert. My dad used to take all of us kids to see the Moody Blues every time they came to town. Growing up in Chicago everyone came through town. Not to mention years of punk shows seeing 5 to 7 bands a week bare minimum. I've seen venues with less people than where there for the Expendables, and the band still gave it there all. No doubt it's harder to muster up the energy, but if it's your art, and it comes from the soul, and you have that passion, that's a truth that should shine through regardless. Speaking of punk.....they had Bad Brains listed as an influence on their myspace, and I've writen elsewhere how they described their sound...I kept waiting for them to speed it up.....never happened. I'm not writing them off, by any means, hope that didn't sound too scathing....

oh fuck us, go have fun...haven't you noticed there is like a million pictures of those guys floating around here?

Amen sway and angi!!!! I did read that before I packed up my trusty MacBookPro, so I kept my camera to myself, just me, myself and I.

Miss Shark, I was at the show as well, didn't care too much for the opener, I thought their attempt at Sublime was fair. The crowd was pretty small I agree..Where were you? Possibly ran in to at some point, double jack and cokes did me good ;)

miss shark, you should check out the trulio disgracias thread in the bands section, I think you might like them, I am digging it. the reason I bring it up is because of your bad brains predilection.

How funny!!!! I was wearing an orange baby doll shirt and jeans(my sister made me wear it. It was her shirt, but she subsequently gave it to me). She was to my left wearing grey and black. She has black hair, mine's red.

haha, I had on a red and blue striped shirt and dark jeans, I was right in front of the stage, G actually grabbed me and was singing during Baby's Got Sauce. There was a girl standing right behind me with short brown hair, she said he came there by herself. But did you see the two guys standing in the front?? They were cracking me up..

"...Overall, it was fortunate that G. Love and Special Sauce (with a little help from Steve the Traveling Bluesman) were able to resurrect the show from the ashes created by the corpses of The Expendables, who were promptly set on fire by a few aggravated members of the crowd directly after their set."

Perhaps the dictionary put it best...how sad for them :(

ex·pend·a·ble (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/expendable)
–adjective

Miss Shark, love the necklace :) Yea, that crazy chic was like "You bitch!" ha, that made it worth it, all I was thinking was don't touch the guitar and mess the song up, haha.

Thanks Amy. I didn't notice the crowd too much. I like to be right at the stage, so I don't have any distractions. I did, however, notice the twins, if they are who you are talking about, how could you not?

Werd, nerd (wink wink)!!!!!!!!

That's the first time I made the attempt to get that close to the stage, luckily it wasn't super packed, but once he started I could've cared less about the crazies ;)
Do you live around that area?

Sway sway sway,

So where are you from, and what are you wearing.....

I was going to say that the edited comment was not really a position at all, interesting none-the-less, but not a postition. Cheeky, who doesn't like cheeky?

ha ha ha, so you saw my position? technically not a position, but makes any actual position much more interesting.

and I am from my living room at this moment, wearing a lovely outfit of apathy and disinterest, prepared to meet my looming work day

Truly....I mean what are the odds? Are we going to wind up on Jerry Springer someday? Long lost sisters that grew up apart yet have sooo much in common.....

(Jerry! Jerry!)
On the next Springer...

Twins, separated at birth. Years later, the music of a certain Philly-born man and his band lead the girls to an online reunion.

Besides sharing love for the same music, the girls discover they were even named the same by their parents.
Where will the similarities end?

Stay tuned.

you see, many years ago an experiment was conducted to produce a perfect human being. Unfortunately there was a problem and the zygote split unevenly. Both children were raised seperately at different locations until one day the two unite.

Sound familiar? and then.....
