So, it's TV Turnoff Week (http://www.tvturnoff.org/) (almost always a good idea), and I'm um, celebrating, by doing my Spring Cleaning this week, and just jamming to some good music & NPR (http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast/podcast_detail.php?siteId=5183214)podcasts (http://www.thislife.org/Radio_Podcast.aspx) on my ipod.

It's been too long since I really deep-cleaned and organized my place.
And it seems it'll easily take a week. :( So I doubt the TV will be missed in the least.

While looking online for tips on shining up my stainless steel, I found the FlyLady's website (http://flylady.net/). It's a good resource on home organization & cleaning, particularly for those with bad habits.

Does anyone have any tips for how to clean the outside of my windows?
I live on the 2nd floor of a smallish condo building, and I don't own or desire to purchase a ladder, but I really would like to clean the outsides of my windows. I have old school crank-out windows. I've tried taking the screens out and reaching around, but I can't get to everything. Maybe I can use a hose and spray from street level?

Oh well...back to work, this computer session is just glorified procrastination

yeah, windex has this stuff for cleaning the outsides of your windows that you can attatch to your garden hose. never used it before but it seems one of those can't hurt to try situations.
or, you could do the take out the screen thing and then get a long handled squeegy and do the windows from the inside that way?

Hmmm... a squeegee, why didn't I think of that?

Not sure if I'll be able to get the right angle, but I'll try that. Where does one buy a squeegee? I'm thinking that the auto parts store might have that sort of thing.
Maybe I could even rig it to a broom handle or something to reach from street level. I could push the recycling bin over, stand on that, and then reach?

Oh, to be the neighbors watching and laughing at me! ;-)

that does sound like a funny sight for the neighbors, but a bit dangerous too; just be careful ;)

squeegy from a car parts shop, and yeah, maybe find something more stable than the bin...that's not a good idea! we don't want to hear stories of you falling off the bin and being in hospital!!! :)

No worries, I've been a climber since forever. But thank you for your concern ;-)

I once locked myself out of my place in the middle of the nite, and I had to use the bin to stand on in order to climb onto my balcony and break into my place.

I went in through the bathroom window (protected by a silver spoon).

It's a bit scary when you realize how easy it is to break into your own place.

hmmm.. you could also try an RV brush. it has a crazy long extendable handle [lessens the climbing]. and the bristles would scrub the window better than the sponge head on the squeegee..
