that's very cool tink
well, except the first two, which look like feathers, don't like that
some of the middle ones look like a few mishaps I've had with books at the beach or in the bathtub

I also don't really llike the firts two, it made me think of fake ostrish plumes...however I really liked the ones toward the end that look like those dioramas (spelling?) we had to make back in elementary school...I especially liked the one that looks like an aspen grove with a person standing on the side. very cool...

Hmmm, that's very interesting. For a moment, I was worried that they got hold of all these great books on my shelf that I can't seem to get around to reading.
Anyways, you're right about the diorama, gumbo, that's exactly what it reminds me of, minus my bad drawing of a camel (it was more like a yellow horse with humps--not like Fergie!) that I did in my grade school version of a desert.
I liked the tree ones best, for sure.

I'm a total tree freak. They're such an obvious life symbol for strength, growth, change, healing, etc...
I don't have any tattoos, but if I were to get one, I would get a very intricate (and therefore very hard tattoo to be pleased with, I'd think) banyan tree with it's roots and its branches pronounced and spreading. I'm thinking perhaps I'd add to it later in life...names, places, important words, etc...
But that's kind of um, complicated, isn't it?
I have a vision in my mind...I'm thinking about Japanese or other Asian art and precise line drawings. If I could get a good artist to put my vision on paper, then in theory, I could get a stencil and have the tattoo done from that...
But I'm not sure if it would translate to ink on skin well.
I've never gotten a tattoo, and given its permanent nature, I'm quite hesitant and doubtful that it'd turn out how I imagine, hence my inkless status.
Maybe I should just get a great big painting or photograph of what I'm thinking of and hang it on my wall, instead.
Any thoughts, comments, advice on that?
(Thanks!)

Um, but yay, book art!
Makes me want to go to an art museum and spend an afternoon absorbed in something completely unrelated to my daily routine.
It's great to appreciate and absorb how other people have expressed their thoughts and imagination into a tangible concept instead of just rambling on and on about it as I've done here. ;)

There's a great guy down in Ft. Lauderdale that did my last one for me when we lived down in Boca. His name escapes me at the moment, and he may not even be there anymore, but he has an excellent reputation for precision. I'll look into it and get back to you. As for design, my husband did that one for me, just one of the perks that's comes along with being married to an artist. How's that for being no help what so ever?
I see this Phreak has some very good company....

angischy, that's kinda funny you should tallk about trees and pictures. I just started to do a mosaic on my foyer wall in smashed up tile. At the bottom of the stairs is a tree which will extend down into dirt and roots At the top of the stairs is a sunshine. It doesn't look like much yet, but I've got a vision.
With the tattoo, it can be detailed, but if you've got black lines too close together they don't want to do it because they know it's slowly going to bleed together over time, from my experience. On one of mine, the guy tried to put a bit of white in some of the parts to keep it how it should. Just find a picture of the tree sort of how you're thinking and if you take it in somewhere they'll tell you how big it'll have to be to make that level of detail work. Maybe you could tattoo from your heels up to your neck, a fluid moving tree, trading trunk for legs.

the book art is pretty cool, but it also makes me cringe a bit, as they are books, after all...

yep. i love trees for the same reason. they are a big symbol in the lithuanian culture - in songs, poetry, literature, art, and even folk dances. i also love giving trees to plant as gifts
