Langerado is here

http://www.athensmusic.com/images/glove.jpgIn the past two months the Classic City has hosted two raucous homecomings for some of our most beloved sometimes and former residents, STS9 and the DBT, at the Theatre. One of the most popular touring jam bands in the Southeast, Perpetual Groove, decided to record a show at Last Call for an upcoming live release. Albums are being released to accolades and bands are blowing up right and left. In the past two months the local music scene has continued to burn an eternal flame, while the weather around here has been pretty awful.
All the local music you love has been packaged for export across state lines. This Saturday in Hollywood, Fla., the folks at the Weather Channel predict mostly sunny skies with a high of 84 degrees. You read about the Langerado Festival (http://www.langerado.com/) here last week and the moment of truth is almost upon us. Athensmusic.com was able to touch base with event organizer Ethan Scwartz last week and just recently with one of the performers that will be sharing the bill with some of our favorite scenesters this weekend...
We caught up with Garrett Dutton, a.k.a. G. Love, of the soul-folk outfit G. Love & Special Sauce (http://www.g-love.com/) while he was in LA doing a casting call for a TV pilot. The band is no stranger to huge festivals, having been part of the Roskilde Festival in Denmark and the Bonnaroo extravaganza stateside. He's also a big fan of Athens: "I definitely like it there. We've been playing the 40 Watt for years, and there's a nice vibe there- a nice vibe in Athens." When told that he was sharing the bill with Athenians like the DBT (http://www.drivebytruckers.com/) and Sound Tribe Sector Nine (http://www.sts9.com/) he seemed pretty excited. "I've crossed paths with them [the Truckers] before, but STS9 -- I'm a big fan -- those are my boys. They were f**king epic-crazy-awesome at Bonnaroo!"
G. Love and his crew have been keeping a relatively "low profile the last two years" but with two small tours this spring and summer, with a stop in Athens expected to be announced soon, and an album set to drop this fall, G. Love will be hustling. Appropriately enough the new record will be called "The Hustle," described by G. as "a pretty raw, live and funky record that's The Meters meets De la Soul -— garage style. Ultimate front porch music." As for the Langerado experience, "Charlie Hunter sat in with us last year. This year, who knows..."http://www.athensmusic.com/archives/000397.html
