So don't hate y’all. Today we are in Vienna, VA at the famous Wolf Trap Amphitheater. It's another one of these classic venues. Sonically correct, beautifully constructed and landscaped. It’s really a very nice venue in the same league as Red Rocks and The Gorge.

I definitely stayed up late last night but I had a surprisingly productive day. We sound checked at noon continuing our work on some of the new tracks. We have been focusing on "Lottery" and "Grandmother" which are both coming along nicely. After that we had a rare "Band Meeting" to talk about the new record. The meeting went very smooth and we made a top secret plan to finish the "Down and Dirty" record.

Then I rounded up Shef from Ozo and the slightly Stoopid horn section of De La and C-Money to work out this new joint "City Livin". The song sounds so smooth with the horns. We will do it tonight. When I was heading to the bus for a jog I ran into a bunch of the Ozo dudes perpetrating on the hoops court so I had to step in for some ruff house. I took one game but had to give some charity to the Ozo fellas (I didn't want them to be all depressed for their show ya know). Anyhow that felt good as sh!t to run.

Now I'm gonna take a nap

Rock it

G

She got more or less kicked in the head by some moshing fool.

Does anyone else not think that Wiggle Worm and the horny sounds of City Livin match the idea of an album striving to be "down and dirty"?...those two tracks sound more like party songs to me.
I was thinking down and dirty blues music with some grimy beats, raspy vocals, and not very danceable. But the two aforementioned tracks are decidedly upbeat.
Am I way off, or...is there some incongruence here?

Hey, I needed to get a break from the road, and it was raining! So I was in a stupid cafe in downtown Indy...refreshing the podcasts on my ipod and getting a fix, what can I say? :p

I dunno. Anyone out there to defend Virginia?

I do know that "Virginia is for Lovers" is the state's official tourism slogan and I think they were one of the first ones to do that, officially, for whatever that's worth.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/6/66/Lovers.jpg/250px-Lovers.jpg

They tried to update it recently in an ad campaign, but that went a bit
awry (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20358437/) when they discovered the hand gesture made by the model in the posters is actually a gang sign. OOPS!!!

so you're saying it's just the crap they put on your license plate? basically.
or the big sign at the state line.

I live in Beautiful British Columbia, that's a pretty crafty one.

ha ha, I just thought of this, at what point does advertising yourself in this way (being for lovers), cross you over into a new category....venereal virginia? probably need to analyze the public health stats since conception of this ad campaign and compare them to all other states for the same time period.
or not

angischy
09-01-2007, 02:17 AM
It's more like the ad they put in magazines to promote people to come visit their state, but yeah.
When we were kids in Wisconsin, the state tourism board had bumper stickers that said "Escape to Wisconsin" which we altered to say "Escape Wisconsin" and later it was "Wisconsin...You're Among Friends"
but I think the official state slogan is "America's Dairyland"
As farming continues to go all corporate and/or the farmers die off, I wonder if they'll be changing that...

I got kicked in the head in baltimore....

Vienna, VA is where I was attacked. DiPeach {james} can attest to this, since I sort of got him involved when some guy apart of the No Fun team alchy swung at him.
But, basically what happened "team no fun" wanted to intrude on my good time along with the other people who paid 80 bucks for the ticket to go get beer because you weren't allowed to drink inside the venue and didn't care for slightly stoopid. Anyways- assholes jump over the barrier and i got security, b/c people were sitting there and it wasn't fair.

Anyways, they threw beer at me and called me fat bitch/fat fuck/stupid bitch/ eat another burger/etc. I had enough so I grabbed the main girl who was talking shit to me by the roots of her hair and jerked her head back and forth a bit her boyfriend grabbed me then some dumbass swung at James and finally someone stepped in and got them away from us. then security came over and I told him what happened and I didn't get in trouble but they never came back. Dukes up baby Dukes up. I don't know... my claws came out during that show.

I feel bad for doing it, but shit I had enough of the name calling and when "do something bitch" is said to me.... back up.

wow can't we all just get along???

in all my years going to shows i have never been in a fight or seen anyone fight but drunk rednecks.

why would anyone get into a fist fight at a concert? just move if the people by you are not nice. there usually are way more cool peeps than rude ones at shows.

i guess virginia was for fighters that day. carad remind me to stay away from u!

CaraD.
09-15-2007, 06:36 PM
pretty much paid 80 bucks for seat... why would i move when i paid to sit there???

also- i'm one of those girls that has to be upfront...

doubledown
09-15-2007, 06:50 PM
i have never understood that. if you are not up front, then what? do you cry? is the show horrible? do u not get sweat on by g love?

maybe i am not the diehard fan i thought i was but i like to see and hear the show i paid 80 bucks for. i like to get a beer every few songs, not be glued to my spot and forced to wear a diaper afraid of missing a moment of the set.
it's just a concert, after all. i go to lots of them. don't u go to have fun and hang out with friends and hear good music? what's the fixation on being right upfront?
also for 80 bucks i hope u got a free t-shirt or something! i only paid that much for vegoose and other festival shows. wow!!!

one question, even if u paid that much for a seat, didnt u just stand up when the show began? theres always more room then. why fight about it?

either way, it's okay, please put down your dukes. :)

Um, I am pretty much going to continue to get up front. Thats my thing that I like to do. I don't like drinking during concerts; I prefer before or after.
I also like be up front because i have fun when I am up front, I can put my bag down between my feet and the barrier or even sometimes on the stage. I like being up front b/c my videos and pics turn out better and are pretty good. I like being up front so Frank {merch guy} can hand me a CD and water for me and my friends. I like being up front so when G.Love holds my hand during "Baby's got sauce" Frank captures a cool photo and emails it to me and that becomes my main pic on facebook. I like being up front so I can get in the head by houseman's drumstick. I like being up front so Mike sees me and says hello. I Just like being up front.

Cheers to you for strolling into the venue whenever you want and drinking your beer. Thats you and I'm me. Now--- will you stop badgering me. And drop it?

whoa there lady, so it's all about you? okay, you are friends with the band or it feels like it. that's cool i guess. but if you're really friends with the band, why do you have these problems with fights breaking out and stuff?

i'm not badgering you and your not on trial, so quit defending yourself so hardcore.
different strokes for different folks. i was just pointing out that if u were having such a hard time existing up front that there are other ways to see a show and they are just as delightful if not better.

LOL, I can handle it, I swear! I just want people to discuss nicely, not fight.
Wow, that was kinda intense. Think he'll be back?

Think he left? Just watching it all while my nails dry....

Cara don't let random people get your goat like that. I mean that in the nicest way.

CaraD.
09-15-2007, 07:40 PM
um... he probably won't respond to my comment anymore.
And I'm not friends with the band. Aquaintances... but still- it seemed like to me that this guy/girl/? was trying to persuade me to sit in the back... ugh no thanks. That was the first time anything like that had ever happened with me. Except the time at the Raleigh show when some woman grabbed my crotch and I had to man handle her. But whatever.

Ha ha ha too funny.

I'm with you, I like being up front. For me it's an energy thing. In my experience it's a whole different feeling up front, and chilling in the back. Maybe it has something to do with my upbringing. My dad is very much a get the best tickets you can, be it a concert, ball game. It's been instilled in me for as long as I can remember. We used to cut school, go to Cubs games and buy and sell tickets till we had great seats and money for food.

they threw beer at me and called me fat bitch/fat fuck/stupid bitch/

This is basically what got me in a fight at a show last summer. The first and only fight I have been in my entire life. Sometimes you can't just walk away. Especially if they take the first swing.

Virginia is for lovers I know I live here and have love for all, and if you know me, you know that. but anywhere you go, there are not nice people about, even here...I know it's hard to believe. Cara, while I would do my best to avoid a fight, I can understand your need to defend yourself, sometimes if you won't who will. We all must have self respect and watch our own backs. But man what a thing to almost ruin a great show. on that note let us all respect doubledown's right to give an opinon in which ever way he/she sees fit. We are phamily here, it's one love for all, and like anyother family we will not always get along. ONE LOVE.

well doubledown, it is good to have you here, as for your gender, I suppose you can say curiousity, but I do not like to assume or call a person it, so it is good to know sometimes. One love.
