are merch people an occupationally segrated group? like circus folk?
is it a self-inflicted, perceived elitism that allows them to only mingle with therir own kind?
or is it a unwritten societal mandate such as this, 'quarantine this folk before it taints the rest of society and breeds with our good stock'?

It seems there is a presumed elevated coolness. This may, however, not be the case at all. Perhaps it is a step down from fandom or (gulp) even the socially unscrupulous yet near-requisite character known by showgoers as that drunk girl (the one everyone talks about the next day with laughter and shame, thankful it wasn't them)? This lower rang in status would occur because now one is no longer there solely for enjoyment of the music, one is there as an employee.
This may result in presumed uncoolness by the part of show attendees, even leading to name-calling and other unpleasantries when one does not sate the fan's need for merchandise acquisition in the fan's desired way.
The question remains is it a step above groupie, or a step or two below such other social roles because actual "work" is required for this perceived coolness to be attained?
I trust the new recruit will divulge her findings after considerable fieldwork on this oh-so-important case.
On the other hand, maybe it's more like vampirism.
i.e. Cara, haven't you already hung out with Frank? Did he, perhaps, bite you and now you have become one of his kind?
Just goes to show, people, be careful of those traveling salesman/musician types.

Jokes!
I'm looking forward to it. one step closer for me to make my way into the music business... and it just looks like fun. I love selling stuff! I just hope I have someone to talk to. LOL. otherwise, I might get bored.

really, you need to see? i guess it comes from being shorter, generally i can't see the band, but as long as i can hear it's fine.
