It is really unfortunate that it took me so long to appreciate the music of Joni Mitchell. At my umg internship I learn a lot about new artists and I felt really idiotic now knowing who Joni Mitchell is. Anyway, I listened to her latest album Shine and I really appreciate it. I know she is a legend and has influenced everyone. I found this stream that had her talking about the album, check it out and let me know what ya think. Thanks.

it matters not whether you have appreciated her for years, or have only recently discovered her.
she belongs to a small, exclusive group of extremely gifted and talented singer/songwriters who forever changed music.
and there are some good vids out there on you tube if you care to see/hear her in her back in the day. she sang like a songbird.
great thread topic. i love that girl.

Well, better late than never, artyjames.
One of my favorite songs of all time is "All I Want"
Thanks http://smiley.onegreatguy.net/thanks.gif for the thought, I'm gonna go dig out Blue and upload it onto my itunes. I wanted it last time I was on a trip and I was upset it wasn't on my ipod.

Oh yes, so many great lyrics here. I haven't listened to some Joni in awhile. So timeless though. As timeless as Dylan.
And real.
As full of life and joy as some of her songs can be, others are just depressing and full of the cynicism we can't help but feel sometimes.
"The last time I saw Richard was Detroit in '68,
And he told me all romantics meet the same fate someday
Cynical and drunk and boring someone in some dark cafe
You laugh, he said you think you're immune, go look at your eyes
They're full of moon
You like roses and kisses and pretty men to tell you
All those pretty lies, pretty lies
When you gonna realise they're only pretty lies . . . "

Did anyone pick up her latest release? It's been out two weeks now and I still haven't managed to pick it up.

Born out of a burst of creative energy, Shine was one of three artistic endeavors launched by Mitchell in 2007. The first, “The Fiddle and the Drum, a ballet based on Mitchell's music, debuted with the Alberta Ballet in Calgary earlier in the year with Mitchell serving as co-creator and artistic director. The second was a politically charged visual art exhibit by Mitchell that will debut in New York in the fall.
