June 24th GLsSS will drop their 10th official record!! Crazy right? The record is finished and sounds dope. All that's missing is the title. You guys came through last time and helped me pick a great title, Lemonade. Now I need you to do it again. Help me name this joint!!

The working titles are:

Superhero Brother
City Livin'
Honey
Down and Dirty

Let me know what you like or make up a new title.

Thanks!

G

I'm not really a fan of any of these titles.

Down & Dirty sounds like an ol' GLaSS EP from back in the day!! I dig it!

Superhero Brother is cool but i think it would be better if it were like

"G. Love is your Superhero Brother" or somethin.

Title Ideas:

Hip-Hop Blues
Good as Gold
From the Ground Up
Bankin'
Bring's It Home (G. Love Bring's It Home)
Ring The Alarm

Well, without having heard the demos or seeing a tracklist, it's pretty hard for me to suggest a name. Lots of things may sound cool, and I'm full of ideas, but that doesn't mean the title would be congruent with the album's contents. Ya know what I'm saying?

CaraD.
04-01-2008, 03:33 PM
fer sure. I just think that you're edgy/creative and have good ideas.

whoever- said Bankin' - i like that. maybe not for this album, but in general its kinda fun.

I'm leaning more towards down and dity now- i think because it was the orignal idea, its good to go with.

Well, my little mind mixer's been spinning around, and though I have much bigger fish to fry right now, I'm thinking . . .

Looking at the potential tracklist (Fred's doing, as per usual) I don't see one unifying theme popping out other than a sort of city feel. But City Livin' as a title, all respect due but it kinda leaves me with a yawn. Not much meaning behind that.

I am feeling LOTTERY, or maybe even GET YOUR TICKET with the thought behind it being, throw all these songs, all these thoughts, all this music out into the world, and hope for a return that makes us all rich.
We may not get paid in bill$ but if we're all a little richer for the music being made (G. Love, Special Sauce, the fans, the world, etc), those are some pretty good lotto odds. Cheesy? Perhaps, but aren't all such efforts to come up with grand concepts and titles such as this?

Just a thought thrown out into the world.
We shall see what ends up on the disc itself.

It's kind of funny that he's doing this again. He asked the fans to name the last album, too. I can't remember what the majority was voting on, but I know it wasn't Lemonade, and that's what he went with anyway.

It's sweet to make the fans feel included, but when's he actually going to listen?

I disagree, I think it was lemonade.

I remember it being 'Ain't that right' or something along those lines.. If I can be arsed later, I'll dig..

I'll go wash my feet, just in case, as well. I seem to be eating them a lot lately.. Maybe I'll soak them in a little homemade Kahlua this time..

[and dig I did (http://forum.philadelphonic.com/showthread.php?t=3128&highlight=help+name+album&page=7). It was a toss-up on phamily votes, but then we got the fake-out on the album title. It started as "Ain't That Right" then they went with "Lemonade". I stand by my point though. Why ask for help from the fans if you're just going to do whatever you want?]

I always thought Blatantly Subliminal would be a great name for an album.

hmmmm . Would then have the option to market it as BS. Ironic on a couple of levels, given the seemingly-growing criticism of the recent tour's set lists. (or is my world so small that i am just living in an echo chamber?)

alright, i realize i am operating on very little sleep, and that i therefore have a HUGE propensity to focus on the negative right now. that being said, i think it is a valid observation to question the use of colloquial slang phrases to wrap around a body of work. it dates the disc.

although i was lukewarm on the disc's content, the title "lemonade" was unique and personal to the band. very respectable call for a title. as were "coast to coast motel", "electric mile" and "philadelphonic". "the hustle" was a 50/50. and while i consider the disc one of their finest to date (i know, i know--not a "true" GLaSS ensemble), "yeah, it's that easy" is not my fav. title either.

but come on--"down and dirty"?! please.

and i will likely be called a hater for critiquing without suggesting, but i couldn't care less. it isn't my music or my work. it's theirs. and as the band will likely choose the final product (props to you, sauce), the band should choose the title. and in my humble opinion, it should reflect either the theme or content of the songs on the disc, or reflect their musical or life philosophy. or even something completely obtuse and irrelevant.

just please stay away from the faux street cred slang BS.

thank you for your time.

so.... i was thinking did G name the record already, look at the comment he left on his youtube video:

"you know slim kid tre is one of my favorite mcees of all time! he is on a track on the new record

WHOSE GOT THE WEED in stores june 24th! "

If they really named the album "Who's Got The Weed", I may have to stop listening all together.

He was more than likely high at the time. Even if he wasn't, he's a pretty big jokester, so I wouldn't put much stock into it.

hey g. so, me n some friends were sittin around and talking about your upcoming album and came up with some solid suggestions. the consensus on your options was Honey by a long shot. its slick and short... sounds solid. as for some of your old tunes for album titles (a la superhero brother) i gotta say Honor & Harmony, Sunshine, Unified and Hot Cookin i think would be the best. as for some ideas of other album titles that you use in your lyrics a lot, maybe just "Love" or "Baby"

superhero brother are both good
my thoughts are:
blue sky's
travellin'high'n'low
jetlag
chasin' horizons
hangover lifestyle,...............these all refer to the constant touring of the band!
movin' on up the road,..this refers to your new member of the band making GLaSS sound even better then i thought they could meaning they are movin' on to bigger and better things. Peace from downunder.

After seeing that green costume on the home page, you HAVE to call it SuperHero Brother. If your focus is to make the world a better place with this record- then the name is obvious. Your creativity is addictive, and its been pouring off on me. all the best on the new cd, I'll be one of the first to buy it.

I vote for "Super Hero Brother"

I think the album cover should be of G Love dressed up as a superman character, with harmonicas around his waste in a utility belt, with the belt buckle being a pot leaf, like he wears on stage. In the background it could have pictures of all the stuff he talks about on the song...even the marmosets!
