So, whatcha got lined up for the Summer? So far I have tickets for...
Clapton at Deer Creek (Indy) this Friday
My Morning Jacket CD release show in Louisville 6.10
GLaSS and JBT at the Murat (Indy) - August
Radiohead at Deer Creek - August
My Morning Jacket at the Riverfront Great Lawn (LVille) - August
Some other possibilities like Jack J. at Deer Creek, DMB at Deer Creek, Tom Petty at Deer Creek. I would like to do a festival, maybe Rothbury in MI, but not 100%.
So...?

So far only the "Block Party" in Seattle. Maybe Jack in August. The Gorge is ridiculous in price for camping though. Back in the day (that's what I said), it was $20 for tent-camping. Now, it's $45.
Gas is only $4 a gallon.
I can't wait until I get through this contradictory phase I'm in, i.e. DON'T DRIVE...
WE GO!

It seems perhaps music festivals have been genetically impreganted with some of the voracious DNA from our pine beetle that has decimated many forests. Perhaps that was some ultimate plan, first the pine beetles clear out some forest, then where there is land clearing, the festivals will come. As the herd say, "put your head in the sand, with your walkman on, put this goddamn song on and hum along... lalalala we can't hear you, lalalalala, we can't hear you."

Oh stricken, you probably know this, but at the Gorge, last time I stayed at the state park, WAY better, more room, a beach, clean bathrooms, etc.

You're ranking The Gorge above Red Rocks?!?! Wow.. I've been to The Gorge [first time I saw JJ, Donovan and GLaSS] and, granted, it's a gorgeous place, but I've heard some damn special things about Red Rocks. I was prepared to make the road trip from AZ this summer for Radiohead [apparently last time they were there for the HTTT tour it was coinciding with Venus being damn close to the Earth, and was an extremely spiritual experience for some friends of mine], but they're bypassing it and playing White River outside of Seattle again [a truly shitty Amphitheater IMO]- LAME!
But, yeah, I don't have anything planned this summer because of the move and shit :(

Nothing purchased yet but hoping to catch GLaSS/JBT/TP in the ATL or at Red Rocks. We had some friends move to Longmont, CO a month ago so they are less than and hour from Red Rocks. September would be a great time to visit in my book.
going to try and catch The Swell Season at the Ryman in Sept. State Radio is at Exit/In next week but that might conflict with game 3 of of the NBA Finals.
Mr. C you gotta try and catch DMB and Willie at Slugger Field. Thats a crazy small venue for that line up.

Yeah, they are #1 and #2. The Gorge just looks incredible, but Red Rocks looks awesome too. I guess they are pretty much tied.

I know! I didn't even know they were playing it, and by the time I found out it was sold out!
They are selling ticks on Craigslist for $150+ a piece. again.
I did see My Morning Jacket tonight though. Incredible. CD release show, only 500 tickets given FREE to the first 500 to pre-order their new album 'Evil Urges.' They sold out 4 shows at Radio City Music Hall in NYC in 20 min., so it was pretty special. Hometown show for the old school fans before they head to B'Roo!

Just booked flights and tickets over the weekend! We are beyond stoked. This will be our first Red Rocks show (not on dvd) and we can't wait. Have not seen JBT since November and GLaSS since Feb I think it was. Really can't wait.

Not even sure where to start with the Red Rocks show. I can easily say it was the best concert experience of my life thus far. It was rainy and cloudy Friday morning when we landed but by 5pm the sun was out the coulds were gone and the weather was perfect. The moon looked just barely full when it took perch high above the masses and the Denver lights were dancing in the distance wishing they could be at the show too.
The temperature was in the low 50's and with the assistance of a hat and jacket you were quite comfortable. With a lack of humidity in the air 50 degrees in Colorado felt much warmer than 50 degrees in say North Carolina. My only afterthought was I should have brought a glove for my beer hand but it still was not too cold by any means. The parking lot was like a big tailgate party with music blaring and drink flowing. We parked in the south lot and it was a pretty short walk in with fantastic views of amazing rock formations all around.
Once inside Red Rocks the atmosphere was at an entire different level. Our seats were in row 40 just left from center stage. Everybody was hyped and ready to leave it all inside the park. There was more than adequate room in front of you to dance and go crazy and you were not crowded from the sides either. I'm convinced there is not a bad seat in the venue. Security was very relaxed so we could easily walk down and listen from the side closer to the stage. We did this towards the end of GLaSS set.
Tristan was amazing. People were still filing in during her set but she had a really great response from those of us already inside. She sounded great and played a solid mix of tunes from both albums.
JBT blew it up. Colorado really loves those guys. This was my 3rd time seeing them and I was treated to several firsts. John Butler broke out the banjo, the electric and also stood up and played on a few tunes all of which I had never seen him do at the previous two shows. His daughter Banjo came out and did some Irish Step Dancing during one song. I wish I had written down set lists or took some notes so i could report with more detail. Truthfully I wish I could go back and experience it all again in slow motion. Jason Mraz said that about his European tour and I get it. You want to be able to fully appreciate what you don't get to live out on a day to day basis. Then when it's all over you wish you could do it again just to make sure you got it all. A good rule would be to live life thoroughly each day to ensure you get the maximum out of it but sometimes it's easy to get lost in familiar activities and relationships. Then we just coast a bit rather than cherish those moments to the fullest extent.
Back to the show, GLaSS brought it all to Red Rocks and didn't leave anything out on the road. If G was having vocal trouble it was hard to tell. I thought he was as strong as the other times I've seen them so maybe the sound guys were able to beef his vox up in the mix but he sounded great. Jimi, Mark, House all sounded superb too. The music was electric, the crowd was electric and I think they all fed off each other the entire evening so it kept building and building.
Again no set list help from me but they opened with Peace Love and I remember Booty call and Back of the Bus being close to the beginning too. From the new album Georgia Brown, Soft and Sweet, Weed and Super Hereo Bro all were played (plus Peace as I mentioned earlier). G did some freestyling during Who's got the Weed and at another point in the show using one juncture in the flow to dis on Sara Palin and wax political a bit. GLaSS really sounded smooth on the whole. When G can start a song acoustic and the Sauce come in without you realizing it you know they are nailing it.
The Roaches beat box into Rodeo Clowns sounded great and G gave some love to JJ just like the recorded intro. I-76 was thrown down, Hot Cookin, Rainbow, of course Beautiful with Tristan and Black Bird with John Butler as they have been doing. Jeff sounded great on Why don't we Do It Anymore, Cold Bev was in there no doubt. I know I'm leaving many songs out. I don't remember Kick Drum which i wanted to hear but I think they did Stepping Stones and maybe Baby's got Sauce. The later it got we were pretty wiped after running on a few hours sleep to catch a 6am flight that morning. The show went from 7 - 11:30 ish and it actually started right at 7 to my surprise.
Like I said it was the best concert experience of my life. Of course the bill was amazing but a large part was due to it being Red Rocks and the whole environment. It was really the perfect combination of bands and venue. GLaSS and JBT are both headliners in my book and when you throw in Tristan and Red Rocks you can't go wrong. It was awesome all around. Hope that's a full enough report for you Angi!

so it's almost my summer here (give it a couple of months) and I'm seeing Michael Franti and Spearhead in October...quite excited.
Not a lot of good stuff out here at the moment...most of it is techno/electronica which I'm not really into, unless it's on commercial radio...we'll see.
