so what's been newerish to your music rotation lately?

i've added vampire weekend (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=105993385) (apparently eric told me about these guys and they've been our itunes since before langerado, good thing i listened so well:p.) i finally remembered to add these guys to my ipod right before a super busy day at work. nice little bubble to the music to get me ready for the day, then an added lift listening to them on my lunch. cap cod kwassa kwassa (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wHl9qRsMzw&feature=related). eric says he can only listen to a song or two before he ods on bouncy, but i'm all for whatever puts a little more pep in my step. better than caffeine!

i've mentioned kylie audlist (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=310414496) in the bamboos thread, but i really like this chick. such a strong voice and some great music backing her up as well. community service announcement (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2Yv9l216do)

i also grabbed the might imperials (http://www.daptonerecords.com/pages/dap003LP.html) thunder chicken. the album is almost 10 years old, but still new to me! it's got that funky feeling that's been attracting me as of late. the matador (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtiEM8Qf9dY)

and though i haven't' been listening to much of it (because it's not out yet,) i'm excited for umphrey's mcgee's upcoming album, mantis. they're really going for a preorder push, and having some luck it seems. on the day of the release everyone who had preordered it will get an email for a digital download. they also have bonus material that will be released in levels depending on how many people preorder.
Bonus Material Part I: Here is where we aim to elevate from standard to extraordinary with the pre-order experience. We have set aside a wide variety of bonus tracks for pre-order customers--some of these tracks are outtakes, alternate, and early versions of songs from the new album. Other tracks were culled from the archives, including some oft-requested rarities such as tracks from the annual acoustic Holiday shows and tracks from historical "Taper Appreciation Nights." We will include 'fly on the wall' recordings from inside the control room of the studio as we wrote, discussed, edited, and finalized arrangements and sections of these songs. There will also be video snippets from album recording sessions and beyond, including unreleased live concert footage, and a whole host of miscellaneous goodies from soundchecks to solo projects to a high-resolution downloadable booklet complete with photos, lyrics, hand written notes, alternate song titles and more!

Bonus Material Part I available EXCLUSIVELY to those who pre-order.

we've already started to get songs emailed to us. one was a song that hasn't been heard before, but is on the album and i'm very excited to hear the rest. they really are trying out some new sounds, but with the same um level of excellence.

so i'm just gonna throw the multiple bands i've been listening to in the monthish together here.

previously mentioned in the bonnaroo thread, delta spirit (http://www.deltaspirit.net/).
Delta Spirit is a band from San Diego, California. Often dubbed as a “hybrid of rock and northern soul” or as an "Americana/soul" group, the band has never been signed to a major label. The group incorporates unconventional instruments (such as trash cans lids and orchestral bass drums), the multi-instrumentalism of the members and the vocal delivery and religiously/spiritually-themed lyrics of singer Matt Vasquez. The group consists of Jon Jameson (bassist), Brandon Young (percussionist), Matthew Vasquez (vocalist), Sean Walker (guitarist), and Kelly Winrich (multi-instrumentalist).

when i happened to stuble upon delta spirit in a blog about 16 bands predicted to blow up this year, i also found glasvegas (http://www.glasvegas.net/us/frontpage). they're a scottish rock band that i can't understand what the fuck they're saying half of the time, but i love em! several of the songs are about the lead singers dad, and results from when he left the family.

go square go (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gr2YrjWXZk)-first time understanding some of the lyrics were just now finding the video with the lyrics (mostly right) in the info section:D

it's my own cheating heart that makes me cry (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQRKY016xkM)

right around the same time a friend recommended another scottish band, frightened rabbit (http://www.frightenedrabbit.com/).
Frightened Rabbit are a Scottish indie rock band from Selkirk, Scotland, consisting of Scott Hutchison (vocals, guitar), Grant Hutchison (drums, vocals), Billy Kennedy (guitar, keyboards, bass) and Andy Monaghan (keyboards, guitar, bass). The band has so far released two studio albums, with their second, The Midnight Organ Fight, receiving widespread critical acclaim.

Concerning the band's line-up, Scott Hutchison notes that:

the initial line-up in Frightened Rabbit was just myself. I had really only been messing with my 4 track for about 6 months before I started playing some shows on my own. Some of the songs still didn't have words and I was mostly just mumbling nonsense half the time. Grant joined a year later, making the outfit much noisier. Billy came along about 6 months after this and actually made it a bit less noisy. He's very calming like that is Billy. Andy has been in the band since January, and adds all the extra details we were missing before. Still not sure if we're finished gathering members.

i also got acid tongue by jenny lewis (http://www.jennylewis.com/) recently. i've been a fan of her with rilo kiley. acid tongue is her second solo album, and better, i think, than rabbit fur coat.

and last but not least, upon recommendation from angi i got holy ghost tent reviva (http://www.holyghosttentrevival.com/)l's cd. here's (http://www.indyweek.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A273839) a great review of the cd.

Someone sweet gifted me with the latest Mofro disk, Orange Blossoms (which has been out for months now), and I am really digging it.

If you're out somewhere reading this, thanks again, Mister. :p

I haven't found any good language-related music worth sharing (yet), and if I do, you all probably won't care to endure it, but...if I do, I'll be sure to share!
