Just found out they are in Santa Cruz on Sunday night.
I didn't make it to see Ryan Adams/Matt Costa/Oasis last week (no can do on school nights), but maybe I can make it to this one.

I'm on my way! I didn't think I'd make it back from Tahoe in time, so didn't buy tix in advance, and of course, since Friday, it sold out. BUT thanks to Craigslist and a not-too-greedy seller, I'm going after all

I hope you had a great time. We know you've earned it!

I also earned the I-can-barely-keep-my-eyes-open feeling I'm struggling with right now. Grrr! :o

It was fun, but they took forever to go on! I wish I'd stepped out and gone over to the coffeeshop down the street to study while waiting, but I didn't want to miss the beginning of the show.
Anyways, they guys came out loud and really fired up. The drummer was tossing drum sticks from the start and very fun to watch. BH killed it, as always. They played a few rocked out versions of BHIC songs but mostly stuff I wasn't all that familiar with. Ben played acoustic for just a couple songs (with full band) but kept the intensity. A favorite moment for me was the song where he didn't even played guitar, just percussion (like a tambourine but with more jangly things . . . ?) and sang and jumped around the stage. Sooo energetic, he really is fun to watch.
The crowd was into it, I think, but other than a few ok-what-drugs-are-you-on crazy dancers, most people just stood there and took it all in. Which sorta killed some of the vibe I was feeling. It was like, really people, you're just gonna stand there? I dunno.
It was an all ages show, and I think people were wanting to hear BHIC songs and sing along. Alot of people shouted "Purple RAIN!" between songs, but they never brought that out.

Anyways, it was fun, I'm glad I went, and I found out GLaSS will be there in March, so...yay. Perfect venue for them to play. Big barn-like room with a wrap-around balcony & rear bars upstairs. A lot of bad sound spots in the house, but lots of room to dance and move about.

Okay, back to work. I have to re-caffeinate before class starts again. Can't make this school night show-going a habit. It's sucking wayyy too much today!

p.s. I taped the show. If anyone posts expressing interest, I'll share a link once I get the file(s) hosted.

The sound quality may be kinda ho-hum, cuz it was so loud in the house and the recording device was on my person. Plus, I kept moving to avoid the massive clouds of MJ smoke that filled much of the room (and to avoid the talkers, so many talkers!)

Also, can/would anyone help me out with breaking it up into a track-by-track playlist sorta thing? Motashekaram!

As usual, Fred is ON IT! ;)
I actually heard the song on KPIG today (Gotta LOVE the PIG!). If you like it when Ben Harper kicks things up a notch, this is for you. Hearing it now, I remember how great I thought his drummer was. This is definitely a rock band, no Jack Johnson lullabies here.
