Ok, there have been some excellent bands mentioned here. I have a list
of some bands that you should probably know aleready, and if you don't
should check them out immediately.

Slightly Stoopid</span>:
Already mentioned, excellent band played with G. a couple times. Check
out their new album "Everything You Need" which features a sick track
called 'mellow mood' which includes a nice verse by Garrett (he uses
this verse a lot at Sauce shows). This band was originally signed by
Sublime frontman Brad Nowell right before his tragic death. Check em
out. Their first album "Acoustic Roots" is a popular album which would
be a great contribution to any collection.

Long Beach Dub All-Stars</span>:
Again with the Sublime. This band features the remaining members of
Sublime. Check out thier first album "Right Back." You won't regret it.
G. also did a show with these guys in which he chipped in with his
harmonica on the Sublime classic "Doin' Time."

Citizen Cope</span>: A virtual unkown. this funky newcomer is definitely worth a look. His first self-tltled album is one of my favorites.

Josh Ritter</span>: I
would be surprised if anyone here knew of this dude. He is a one man
folk writing machine who has developed quite a following over in
Ireland. He is originally from Whyoming I believe, and his songs are
somewhat similar to what G. includes at the end of all of his
albums (ex: Gimme some lovin, Coming Home, When We Meet Again). Very
good.

Mason Jennings</span>:
This guy is mostly known for his ties to Jack Johnson, and he is an
excellent musician. His songs are somewhat similar to Ritter's. Highly
reccomended.

Atmosphere</span>: Underground rap artist who is on the rise. Has a new video out on mtv. He can flow pretty good.

The Roots</span>: You all know about them. If you haven't been aquainted with these guys, get to it.

Reel Big Fish</span>:
Have some good albums. A Ska/Raegge band who can throw down some nice
hooks. Check out their album "Why Do We Rock So Hard?" Pretty good
stuff.

Ben Folds, Ben Kweller, Ben Lee</span>:
All of these guys are similar, the most popular is Folds. They all play
and write poppy piano ballads, and are very good. You won't regret
checking them out. Take a look into Ben Fold's most recent album
"Rocking The Suburbs."

The Jam Bands</span>:
Yes, you should look into this genre. Who doesn't like Phish,
Widespread Panic, The String Cheese Incident, The Disco Biscuits, The
Flecktones, etc............. Do yourself a favor and get into them.

Ben Harper and Jack Johnson</span>: Enough said.

Virginia Coalition</span>:
These guys are awesome. They write good songs, and have a pretty
large underground following. I consider them as the better OAR.

Radiohead, Modest Mouse, Coldplay</span>: The British Alt Rock bands rule. Don't forget the fact that Radiohead is the reason for Coldplay's success.

The Thrills</span>: They just released a new album. This band is awesome. If your looking for some fresh new music, look no further.

Robert Randolph and The Family Band</span>:
These guys rock. If you've ever seen them live, it is impossible to
dislike them. Randolph was rated like the 90th best guitar player of
all-time I believe. Their new album is called "Unclassified"

The Benjy Davis Project</span>: Underground college band. Check out some of their stuff off of Kazaa. They are good.

Other notable bands:

Oar,

Andy Stochansky.

The Get Up Kids,

Pete Francis (Dispatch)

Travis

Alexi Murdoch

Galactic

Mike Gordon

American Analog Set

Damien Rice

Blues Traveler

etc,etc,etc,etc.........The list goes on and on.

Hope you'll check some of these bands out. You will be doing yourself a favor. D*mn I'm tired. Peace.

I may not agree with most.. but the one band i have checked out most recently (and grown to love, no doubt) was Modest Mouse. I'm lost for words to descrbe 'em, but the important thing is... they rock my musical needs.

thanks for the Modest Mouse tip, I picked it up today and am totally diggin it.

Some other bands I think should be mentioned are Dispatch and Keller Williams. Keller is this experimental guitarist that has a jam band-esque sound, kinda like String Cheese Incident. He has some odd lyrical stuff and some amazing guitar instrumentals. Dispatch are a great band that have a musical style I can't even describe. It has elements of rock, hip-hop, acoustic balads but don't sound like anything in particular. Each of their songs sounds totally different from each other.

I've also been digging this New York band, Steel Train. They have a very classic-rock type sound with pianos and acoustic guitars and great vocal arrangements. They are a pop band but kind of like how the beetles were considered pop back in the day, not like the pop sh*te of today
